As a Sociology major/transfer?

3.6 at least

fyi this is a forum for UC transfers

@panda48: 3.6+ may be true for some majors (not sure about sociology) at USC but for others I have seen people get in with as low as 3.1. My friend got in this year with a 3.4 no problem. 3.6+ is more like what is needed to gain admission to UCLA (aka the only real school in LA county)

So around the 3.5 area would be good right?

3.72 is the average gpa of admission for transfers, it goes higher or lower depedning on majors. and I’m pretty sure UCLA is easier to get into than USC. considering tap is really easy to do and is like a 90% chance lol.

I am out of state which is why I am considering USC more than UCLA.

ahh okay, your chances are infinitely better at usc then lol.

so TAP only benefits public schools not private ones?

TAP benefits all kinds of schools. You get priority admission review to schools like Pomona College, Stanford, USC, Pepperdine, etc. It’s most well known for helping people to get into UCLA and Cal, though.

I got a question too: So USC doesn’t give CCC transfers any kind of priority like the UCs do? So that would mean USC would be harder to get into, right, cos you’re competing with ppl all across the country…

see this is why you don’t post stuff like this in here. USC is not apart of the UC system!

USC is probably harder to get into in terms of CCC students applying. However, out of state applications would make USC MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to get into.

IIRC, you don’t need as many units to be able to transfer from a CC to USC.

I don’t get it, so out of state CC helps?

I don’t think it is so much that out of state cc helps, but that UC’s like UCLA give highest priority to applicants from California Community College. As a result it is incredibly difficult to get in as an out of state transfer. This is not true for USC. Therefore, a student from a California CC with similar stats as student from an out of state CC will not be given preferential treatment USC. So the chances of an out of state student getting into USC is equal to the chances of a in state student.

Yeah that is what I thought. I am aiming for a 4.0 GPA, but realistically, I see myself in the 3.5 range. My high school stats aren’t great and I do have relatives that have attended there.

where do u check the average acceptance GPAs by majors?

“(aka the only real school in LA county)”

facepalm

what are the easiest majors to get into?

Probably linguistics, ethnic studies, asian/african american studies, language majors.
