<p>Dean’s List=3.5 semester with at least 16 credits all of which must have letter grades (no P/F, W or I allowed)</p>
<p>Summa= top 2% of graduating class
Magna =Top 10% of graduating class
Cum Laude = Top 20% of graduating class</p>
<p>(Note because honors are dependent upon each year’s student graduating GPA, the exact GPA varies. Last year Summa was 3.96; Magna was 3.83 and Cum Laude was 3.58.)</p>
<p>Departmental honors require a senior year research-based thesis.</p>
<p>TUFTS
Cum Laude - GPA 3.5 and A- or better in 5 courses in your major
Magna cum Laude - GPA 3.65 and A- or better in 6 courses in your major
Summa cum Laude - GPA 3.8 and A- or better in 6 courses in your major AND 1 A- or better in all the distribution requirements.</p>
<p>You can also get departmental honors if you write a thesis.</p>
<p>Dean’s List 3.4 unless you are in engineering in which case it is 3.2</p>

<p>No Dean’s List and no Latin Honors when I was there.</p>
<p>There was Departmental Honors for writing thesis which is by department invitation only. Usually extended to those within the top quarter and exhibits strong interests in the field.</p>
<p>Furman University 0 which like many has a +/- grading scale:</p>
<p>Dean’s List = 3.4
summa cum laude 3.90 or greater
magna cum laude 3.65 to 3.89
cum laude 3.40 to 3.64</p>
