What GPA is generally needed to transfer into Liberal Arts from a Community College?

I am transferring from a community college in Texas to Liberal Arts at UT Austin.

I have:

3.6 College GPA after 2 semesters
274 Volunteer hours over 9th-12th grade
Business Professionals of America President
Chess Club President
Debate Club member
Religious School Teacher every week
Work 5 Hours a week at a store

I saw these statistics regarding transfer on this website posted by a random user:

Business:

  • 1102 Applied, 94 Admitted, 77 Enrolled
  • Average GPA: 3.53 Applied, 3.92 Admitted, 3.92 Enrolled

Engineering :

  • 1532 Applied, 140 Admitted, 96 Enrolled
  • Average GPA: 3.44 Applied, 3.91 Admitted, 3.92 Enrolled.

Communication:

  • 961 Applied, 399 Admitted, 293 Enrolled
  • Average GPA: 3.38 Applied, 3.70 Admitted, 3.72 Enrolled

Education:

  • 314 Applied, 103 Admitted, 68 Enrolled
  • Average Transfer GPA: 3.32 Applied, 3.72 Admitted, 3.74 Enrolled

Liberal Arts:
1611 Applied, 1655 Admitted (the reason is some students are not admitted to their 1st choice, so they are admitted to LA), 1240 Enrolled.

  • Average GPA: 3.42 Applied, 3.62 Admitted, 3.62 Enrolled.

HOWEVER, the UT Austin website says this:

https://admissions.utexas.edu/explore/transfer-profile

3.48 GPA for UT Austin transfers being accepted overall.

What GPA is generally needed to transfer into Liberal Arts from a Community College? Anybody have any idea?

I just got accepted to UT austin in liberal arts (psych) with a 3.67 if that helps at all

So your 3.6 and all your stuff sounds good to me to get in !

Remember, just because you have the GPA doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed admission.

3.48 is the average accepted for ALL majors. Likely, the average for COLA is lower because the overall gpa accounts for more competitive majors such as business and engineering.

i got in with GPA of 3.85. @Jpgranier said 3.48 is the average for all majors. i dont think so. i’ve heard the average ffor COLA is 3.5 - 3.6 and thats lower for business and engineering. for engineering its 3.8 -3.9 because they’re very competitive. again, GPA isnt everything they consider

@Meiliu I don’t know if we’re on the same page. If business and engineering accept 3.8+ and the overall gpa average is a 3.48, there must be some majors that average below a 3.48. COLA being the easiest college to get into, is assume their average is lower than the overall.
