What high school GPA scale does UT-A use for applying for scholarships, etc.?

Are you talking about UT (Austin) or UT - Arlington?

For UT-Austin, we currently use a scale of 4.0 for A, 3.0 for B, 2.0 for C and so on. Starting fall of 2009, we all go to a +/- scale with an A+ or A being 4.0, A- being a 3.67, B+ is 3.33, and so on.

Yes, UT Austin.

What's the number grade for the +/- or rather the new decimal points?

Some scales have a:

100 - 93 = A+/A (UT = 4.0?)
92 - 90 = A- (UT = 3.67?)

What will UT say is a +/- in '09?

can somebody explain the numbering in detail along with letter grade and gpa. for example what would be an 86 gpa wise. also in your opinions what system is better +- or 4.0, 3.0 system no plus minuses

I haven't seen anything detailing specifically which numbers correspond to which grade, such as 93 is an A- or like that. I would love to find out that info too.

As far as which is better, it depends on who you ask. It seemed to me that the more As someone makes the less likely they are to favor the +/- scale. That is only my opinion. YMMV.

As of right now, there is no concrete grade range for each letter scale for the +/- system. But in essence, the +/- system screws over anyone with above a 3.5 and makes it fairly impossible to get a 4.0. So all I have to say is F*** that.

foxshox, have they announced or posted what the requirements will be for Dean's List honors each semester next year, on the plus minus system?

I agree with you that most cc type kids see their GPA's drop under plus minus grading. I like A= 4.0, B=3.0 grades. If someone gets mostly A's, the 3.67's for low A's are aggravating. (I understand that if someone gets mostly B's, the 3.33's for high B's are helpful, so some people might prefer the + - grading.)

They said the requirements for everything would not change, so whatever it is now is what it is going to stay. They are going to make it harder for everyone, so I am trying to get my GPA as high as possible now, so it can take the hit come next fall.
