What GPA should I aim for?

Hi, could some give me a rough estimate of what my college GPA would need to be in order to get accepted to the following schools as a junior transfer?
(majoring in Chemical Engineering)

UCLA (oos)
UCB (oos)
Cornell

4.0

people! stop with the 'what gpa should i get?' questions...

^that wouldn't be a bad idea.

just get your GPA as high as possible. Period.

4.0 is the answer, but if you can't attain that, you're going to need a 3.8+ to be competitive due to your OOS status.

3.7+ in-state, 3.8+ out-state (Cornell considers in/out state too, their funding is from NY so they must give a slight advantage to NY residents.)

i thought cornell was private =(

They only give in state advantage to certain schools.

I wouldn't go for anything short of 3.7+ per semester. I'm sure many on this board would also feel the same. Its just a matter of how much u want to party versus study.
