What recommended high school unweighted GPA should a student have in order to not send ACT/SAT scores to Bowdoin?

I don’t think there is one specific answer to that question. If you are going to apply without an SAT or ACT score, you have to have a stronger application than those who apply with standardized tests scores - not just gpa, but the whole package.

That is the message I got from the Admissions Officer when we visited the college.

Okay, but what does a strong application include if you are only going to send in your GPA. I know you need extracurricular activities, strong essays and recommendations. What else do you need in order to considered a strong applicant?

I would say a 3.9 unweighted in the most rigorous courseload available at your high school might say “Look here, my test scores do not represent my academic achievement.” Better if junior year and first semester senior year are all As. Even better if any Bs are in freshman year only.

The rigor of the courseload is critical.

According to Wikipedia, the average GPA of enrolling high school students is 3.8. So I guess an unweighted GPA of 3.8 and above might be good enough to not send standardized test scores.

You need to be higher than a 3.8… GPA >3.9 is a good marker.

SAT is optional at Bowdoin. However I sent all the SAT scores (including subjects). I think that it helped me a lot since I’m international, however a lot of people in my class did not send in SATs.

As for the GPA most people have 3.7-4.0 GPA from high school, very rarely less.
