<p>The more I read this thread the more I appreciate the way my S's school approaches it. They acknowledge the more difficult level of AP for purposes of National Honor Society membership, but don't really sweat it for other situations like the transcript. My understanding is that they don't weight GPA for class ranking, either. I suppose that can ruffle a few feathers when it comes time to determine the valedictorian, but to be honest I've never had much sympathy for the participants in the annual "valedictory battles" that pop up around the country like weeds every May. I remember watching a classmate of mine reduced to tears as he argued that his GPA was calculated incorrectly. He was right -- and a result he was allowed to sit in the third chair on stage rather than the fourth chair.</p>
