what happened you guys? this board was full and very active last year
2011 ED'ers lets get going

Hi! I love JHU and hope to go there soon ;)

I'm alive :) I love JHU

I'm so nervous already! I really want to get into Johns Hopkins...

i know what you mean
i didn't even send my app yet because i can't decide on which essay to use for the "what would you do in a day..."

same boat, I wrote my first essay, but still need my secod essay

i have so many "what would you do in a day..." essays
i keep changing my mind on which to send

anyone wanna help me narrow it down PM me

I was gonna apply ED but I got really crappy grades (found that out, in late september.. im intel) and Im pretty sure I'm not gonna get in with those grades so I have to apply RD :( hopefully with better grades.
I've got good ECs but Im just so acadamically challenged haha

I've written like 4 essays (3 for the 'best class in school' one and 1 for the 'what would you do in a day') but I hate all of them!

I'm really trying not to get attached to jhu (and others, but esp jhu) TOO much because I'll be even more devastated if they reject me lol

believe in jhu's holistic approach!!

I'm applying ED too. I'm really worried about my SATS tho and I had crappy grades freshmen year =(

NoFX, i encourage you to apply ED if JHU is truly your first choice. Unless you're really really horrible, the worst that could happen to you is that you get deferred to the RD cycle.

Be sure to keep admissions up-to-date with your activities and accomplishments!

Best of luck.

I applied ED this year :)

have most of you sent in ur ed app already?

it has to be postmarked by nov 15th right?

Im on the fence.. I wouldnt be dissapointed at all if I got deferred.. I'd more likely be relieved.
November 15th is not that far away but it's not that close either..
My ECs are pretty good - above average.. better than the ones in the chances threads.
But my grades are such a problem. I used to be in the top 1-5% but this year, I dropped down to like top 30-40% :(

What's the ED rejection rate?!

Because I'm insane and obsessed with Hopkins, I did the math.

Since about 13000 people applied last year and about 3000 got in-and 35% was ED. To find that number, .35 times 3000. Therefore, 1050 people got in under early decision. And since about 1/2 of EDs get in, about 3000 people applied ED.

Official JHU numbers (from the website):

Applicants: 13,863
Admitted: 3,698
Enrolled (projected): 1,160
Admit rate: 27%
Early Decision applicants: 1,004

The entering class size is around 1,200; about 450-460 are admitted through ED meaning that only about 35% of the class comes in ED at Hopkins.

only 450 get in through ED?

Oh Jeez.

Of the 1,004 early applications received this November, 482 students were accepted to the Schools of Arts and Sciences and Engineering.

A 48% chance isn't that bad. When you add in the deferrees admitted in April, there's probably slightly more accepted than rejected. ;)

nofx what does it mean to have "above average ec's"?
please tell

We measure quality very broadly beyond just test scores. It's an opportunity to continue to reach talented students who can bring something unique to the Johns Hopkins community," said John Latting, director of undergraduate admissions.

Its things like that that make me feel like I get in.
