I completed my Fafsa way back in early march and had an EFC of about 30,000. However, right afterwards I made a correction to the investments, and my EFC went down to 5700, which is what it should be.
Then later this month, I kept getting emails saying "Your Correction to your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been processed and the data will be made available to the school(s) listed on your corrected FAFSA." I only made one correction, but I got like 3 of these emails, and each time on the list of my transactions on the FAFSA website, there was always an additional transaction added, and under "transaction source" it always said "electronic correction". I didn't really mind though, because my EFC was still at 5700 and everything was good... UNTIL NOW
They sent me another one of these emails, and this time my EFC went back up to 30,000! The change I made to my parents' investments changed back! I have no idea what is going on.. I have immediately made the corrections again, but I still don't understand why they keep changing my Fafsa, and why my EFC went back up to 30,000 this time.
Any input would be appreciated!

What kind of change did you make to your parents’ investments? Maybe your correction wasn’t the right thing to do???

Did you submit verification documents to any schools? One of your colleges must have changed it on you- this also happened to me. Call the number to the Fafsa department or whatever(it should be in your email) and ask which school made the change. You will have to contact the financial aid administrator at you school after that. Good luck!

You are not supposed to change assets on FAFSA. Assets are supposed to accurately reflect your assets on the day you file FAFSA and are not supposed to be changed unless they were actually incorrect on the day you filed.

You may have to be able to prove to the FA department that any changes were made because of an error as of the date you originally filed, and not because something about assets changed after that date.

Yeah when we filled it out, the amount was incorrect, we believed that it was the market value of all the investments, which was really high. We forgot to include the debts, etc. of them. And if one school changes it, will those changes go out to the rest of the schools?

Colleges are allowed to edit your FAFSA forms, aren’t they? That may be it.

omg…this just happened to me my efc went up…it said by electronic corrections

Pull up your new SAR and look for the fields that were changed - I think they’re marked with an asterisk. Call your school(s) - start with the ones that verified you and find out what prompted the correction. If your info was correct, find out what they need from you in order to re-verify.

Electronic corrections indicates that a school changed your FAFSA.

Get your information together regarding your investments. You will need the info for the DAY you SIGNED your FAFSA. You can find the initial date on your first FAFSA transaction (#1). You will need something to support the worth on that date, as well as something to support the debt against the assets. For example, if it’s a rental home, you will need evidence of the market value on that date as well as a mortgage statement with the outstanding debt shown (as close to the date as you can get it - if you signed the FAFSA is January, they will probably accept your year-end mortgage statement). For other investments, you will need similar documentation. Once you find out which school made the change, contact them & tell them you have this information for them to review so that they can see why you made the change.

DO NOT make changes to verified information. We just change it back to our verified transaction. If you want a school to review their changes, you will need to ask them to do it. Do ask them what they want you to provide as documentation. Some schools are pickier than others.
