Hey y’alls, I’m not exactly new to CC (my email got all wacky and I had to delete my account and make a new one) but that’s beside the point. I’m proud of everyone for staying strong, and there’s only 8 days until M10! Yayyyyyyy! I went through this last year, and it was pretty stressful for me. But, what a lot of people don’t think about is what happens after M10. On this thread, feel free to ask any questions regarding revisits, acceptances, waitlisting, or other things that fall into the post-decision category. Good luck next week everyone, and I’ll try to answer questions ASAP(I know how antsy you can get waiting for advice )!
So, what DOES happen after M10?
A lot of people wait until almost the registration deadline to confirm their enrollment. This is because a lot of revisit days are late March to early April. If you are waitlisted, you can either do nothing if you want to decide on another school or call the school and tell them that you want to stay on the waitlist. I can go into more detail about what happens on revisit days, if anyone wants me to.
Hi! So if you’re wait-listed at a school, other than like indicating you want to stay on the list, what else can you do to help your chances of getting in at the end? Thanks!
@ttK5050 I’d recommend reading through the waitlist thread for that
You may want to stay in contact with your AO or anyone else that you talked to during the application process. This can include coaches, department heads, etc. It’s a good way to let them know that you are still interested and can remind them of the assets you would bring to the school. Maybe something like “Thank you for helping me get this far…I hope I can hear good news in the future”.
I was waitlisted at my top choice btw, but my parents took me off the waitlist right away.
@mondaydevil do you know the name of that thread? I’ve done a search for waitlist, waitlist boarding schools, waitlist M10 and am not finding it. TIA!

@MentorBee here ya go
@ceruleanistic I’d love to hear about re-visit days
When do BS typically do course placement for matriculating 9th graders? Is it during orientation or before?
I think its during the middle of the summer
@DroidsLookingFor of course! I’m actually thinking if hosting a revisit day student next month
I’ll describe my Taft revisit experience and I would except the ones for other schools to be similar. At the beginning and throughout the day, there was a big room with refreshments and you could just go around and meet other students and their parents. At some point, another student for the grade you’re entering will bring you to a few classes, and your parents may get an upper classmen. There will be tours afterwards, and probably receptions for minority groups. (Families of Color, Asian/Asian American, etc.)
Also, the Director of Admissions will prolly have this big speech and everything about how spEciAL everyone is for getting in.
As for course selection, yes it is in the summer. I only had to take math and French placement tests, and everything else was based off of recommendations, and physics was loosely from my math placement. They will tell you what classes you have weeks later, and your actual schedule is a while after that.
@ceruleanistic That was really helpful to hear about placement tests and timing for finding out when a student is told of class schedule. Thank you
@of course, I love talking to prospective parents and students that are in the position i was in last year!
After March 10th, you (or parents) may be contacted by an alum, a current student, or a current parent. Some schools send extra swag (like a t-shirt) upon signing your entry forms @ April 10th.
We had calls from about half the schools from a current parent - this was super helpful and really nice. We were surprised that year when some schools did not have a parent call to answer questions or give us a welcome. It was really great hearing from a local parent. So, if any AO is lurking - I would recommend this to your parents/alumni network.
After April 10th, you may get a different email and password for a new portal. Through this, you will receive communications as an accepted student who is registered for the Fall 2020 start. You will be asked to submit final school transcript (stay on top of this). DO make a copy of your final transcript and bring it with you to your new BS registration day/opening day. We know a few kids that needed this because of mix-ups and lost emails!
Sometime in May (usually before your current school year ends), you will receive an email with a link to the placement test portal. Most schools give placement tests in math and foreign language.
Do start making appointments now for doctors and getting medical records (immunizations) to be completed by early summer. Most schools want all this information sent to them over the summer and it can take months to get a doctor’s appointment!
In my own experience, school packages and swag start trickling in. For acceptances, you get them ASAP, but for waitlists/rejects, it can be up to a week. IMO, worst part of a WL/reject? Getting the letter days after the online notification. Accepted school communication kicks up as they try and flood you with as much to convince you to go as possible. There’ll be some steps to set up an account and get a Revisit Day scheduled. There might be communication from AOs you dealt with during the process, and then @ Revisits there’ll be some speech about how great you are, and then you tail a student for the day. After that, hopefully you have a good decision and financial situation lined up by A10. School communication will start up again in May/June about dorms, classes, etc. Do try and check your email - we received a surprise email mid-July about photos and had to scramble to get something together! By late August, your dorm/advising situation will be set up and you’ll have your schedule by the first day of class.
Hope that was helpful!
