I can remember seeing that move in is 8AM on the 22nd. I just can't seem to find what else goes on. Do the students see you at night? Should parents bother to stay? I thought I remember reading that there were family activities until 4PM on Sunday.

You’ll get a whole schedule of events for move-in day activities and their activities for orientation week. There is a fair amount for them to do. There is a formal convocation ceremony, that parents get to watch on video, and afterwards the parents , holdign green pompoms, form 2 lines though which all the freshman march. Its cool. Dont miss that. Then theres a picnic. After trhat the RAs take the kids off to meetings and they are pretty busy. Time for the parents to skedadle at that point.

I’m sorry I’m confused. When do all these activities take place, Saturday or Sunday?
We’re just tryin to make travel plans.

This is the freshman orientation link. Will answer your questions <a href=“Orientation | Tulane First Year Experience”>Orientation | Tulane First Year Experience;

Realistically, students remain with their parents until the mid-afternoon. There is usually a floor meeting in the evening, after which students join together with their floormates and go out together.

Unless you have something better to do over the weekend I’d suggest staying in NOLA and enjoying the city. If your student wants to come along as you explore, great … otherwise enjoy yourselves!

NewHope - at least as much as you can when it is 102 and 99% humidity!!

^ I am semi-reliably informed (by sources who insist on anonymity) that Scott Cowan has arranged for cooler and less humid weather for that weekend. Don’t be surprised if humidity falls to the low 90’s!

There are usually parents sessions until the early afternoon on Sunday. I would make travel plans for mid-afternoon on Sunday. On Sunday morning there is a jazz brunch and some other orientation sessions.

That said, I would make your mental preparations that your kid will be “gone” after the picnic on Saturday late afternoon. Saturday night they have floor meetings…and they start to follow their own schedule after that. We saw our daughter for a little while on Sunday mainly to give her things that we bought at Target that morning to fix things we forgot to bring and realized we needed after we saw the dorm room.

As said above, you can always wander around new orleans is you have free time.
