What happens if a teacher sends in your recomendation late?

I gave all my teachers my recomendation forms in pre addressed/stamped envelopes, and i told them the deadlines, but... what happens if they send it late? (like... to duke? lol) Are you automatically outed?

I need to know this too.

Late teacher recommendations don't reflect well on the student, but I've heard that they are less of an issue than sending your own materials in late. The big question is: what do you mean by "late?" One or two days late really shouldn't matter much.

However, it's seen as the student's responsibility to ensure timely arrival of all application materials, and this includes giving recommenders enough time to write letters and making sure that they are sent. If one of a student's recommendations letters arrives late while the other two are on time, then that suggests the one delayed letter was the teacher's fault. If all three of letters come in late, though, that suggests to the reader that the student slacked off on this application and did not allow the recommenders enough time to complete materials.

okay, thanks. That helps. I gave my teacher my forms about a month ago, but I thought I had given him Princeton and Columbia, not Duke and Columbia. So yeah, Duke is due on December 15 and Princeton's not 'til the first. So it's my fault, really, but i hope he'll have them finished anyway.

I guess I'll have to apologize and grovel tomorrow...

Well, if the guy's had a month to write the letter, it is reasonable to expect that it's more or less done - so he really should be able to send it out by the 15th regardless of which forms you accidentally gave him. Just ask him to print off an extra copy of the letter he's already (hopefully) written and address it to Duke rather than Princeton.

sorry, i think i misworded that. he has the right forms, i just told him the wrong dates.
