I applied as a transfer for Fall '07 and I applied to get into the Communication Sciences and Disorders major. I know it's limited access, and I was wondering if anyone had ever been in this situation before: What happens if you get accepted to UF, but you don't get accepted into your major? Do you have to pick something else? Are you allowed to pick something else, or is it that if you don't get into the major, you just get rejected from the university entirely?

I'm just really confused and before I called the school (which is ALWAYS a nightmare) I was curious if anyone else around here had been in this situation. I really appreciate any advice/help/stories, whatever.

I've had friends who applied to the journalism program as transfers and said they got totally rejected because of lack of space. I'm not sure if that's even true or if it's the same for every program. You should definitely call the school and ask them even though it sucks to wait to talk to them.

I believe that when you apply as a transfer, admissions first approves you as a univ. admit and then it is sent on to the specific department. It is there that they decide if there is room in the major. I don't think you can change your major to get in another program.

Last year, my s's gf tried to transfer from tulane, she was rejected due to lack of space in her specific major.

Most colleges require you to apply for the major your junior year if its one of the selective programs. It also lists requirements needed to be considered eligble. Look into that if you haven't to see what you need to work on prior to applying.

I know I have everything I need pre-req wise for the program, and I have a REALLY good GPA, I've just heard so many things about UF rejecting people (even transfers) for stupid reasons. And I'm not sure how many people are taken in the Communication Disorders department. I heard 50-60 but that could be for the Masters and not undergrad.

Thank you for everyone who's answered though, I appreciate it greatly :)

Are you a incoming freshman? If so, nothing in high school is really going to count (except the obvious....ap's) for classes. On your application (or w/e) it ask's what's your intended major so on your records it will show that your in that college. But once junior year comes around thats when you actually get (or not) in the specific program. So relax for now, and make sure that you keep that REALLY good GPA.

If I sound redudant I'm sorry..hopefully you get what I'm saying.

Erm....maybe there's miscommunication here but some users have helped clear it up.

unlike some schools you dont APPLY for a college, you apply to the university for frosh. in junior year you pick your major and enter the college. the major you picked at the UF app is an IDEA and nonbinding

Did you have an opportunity to write a transfer essay? I am confused on this part as I recently submitted an application and no essay question were asked. I am wondering if they first establish you as a transfer candidate and then send you a supplement essay? Help me clear this up please.

Thanks for that, I was scaring myself that I somehow omitted the essay portion of the application after triple checking it. So basically there is no person statement, Just academics and a student resume?
