I’m asking this because it seems like I’ll only be eligible for loans instead of grants which I do not need. And now that I’m going through the verification process, it seems like a lot of unnecessary work.
So can I just ignore the verification, just pay the full tuition and go to the university? The universities that I have applied to does not need you to apply for fafsa to enroll
Yes but in the future if you do need financial aid from the college they may not give you any since you did not submit the FAFSA freshman year.
Exactly, what @TomSrOfBoston said.
You don’t have that much more paperwork to do now that you’re in the verification process.
I thought fafsa was a yearly thing? @TomSrOfBoston
Your taxes are a yearly thing.
They compare information from previous years.
^^You can ALWAYS submit the FAFSA in subsequent years. It is only the school’s own funds that can be denied in future years, not federal funds. I don’t know of many FAFSA only schools that require you to file in the first year or forever give up school funds, those are usually the CSS schools.
I think that you should complete the process. As @twoinanddone stated, you are always entitled to any federal funds that you are eligible for, you may end up not being eligible for institutional aid.
IF you know that your parents can comfortably pay your tuition, fees, etc, then don’t finish the process. However, if there is the slightest inkling that you may need additional funding to make this work, finish the process. Also in the event that you have a set back (illness of the primary breadwinner, loss of a job- while we hope these things never happen, sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry), you want to be able to access federal funds.
I
There are a small number of colleges that put restrictions on applying for institutional need based aid innsubsequent years if you don’t apply as an incoming freshman.
If you decide you want the Direct Loan, you can apply later for that.
Personally I think you should complete the process now. What is so difficult to complete?
Plus, if you were awarded work study & want to get a job, you have to complete verification first.
