What happens if I miss a deadline?

I applied to a ton of schools, and while I’ve submitted the Profile & Fafsa on time and most required documents, some schools request a ridiculous about of extra information for financial aid. What happens if I send these additional documents after the financial aid deadlines?? Will they be overlooked completely or is there a grace period? Thanks!

What “ridiculous” things are they requesting?

You are asking the colleges to give you THEIR institutional money. If you want to be considered…meet the deadlines for what they want.

Do it and do it now. I doubt anything else going on is paying as much.

There is a grace period at many schools, but get them in ASAP!!

The Profile and FAFSA have been up for submission since October. The financial aid submission requirements have been on the school websites since September.

It’s FEBRUARY.

Were you selected for verification at these colleges? Is that why documents need to be sent?

OR did you just submit your financial aid things on the later side?

I think you need to get them DONE. You applied to some pricey schools…and you are probably hoping for a significant amount of aid.

Don’t jeopardize your chances by being late. Meet the deadlines.

Sir/Ma’am,

I am well aware of what month it is, when items were released, and what my deadlines are. I would not be asking this question if I hadn’t had some obstacle or special circumstance occur that would hinder my completion of very serious paperwork that I understand needs to be completed by certain deadlines. I obviously know I need to get them DONE…I am simply asking what occurs if, by chance, a submission is late.

I do understand that you are trying to help by replying, and I thank you for the help you’ve given…just please consider your wording in your replies, as that is not helpful whatsoever.

Thank you.

If you have some kid of special circumstance that prevents you from meeting the deadlines…contact each college…ask them what will happen if your additional documents are not received by the deadline.

The schools will give you an idea of what will happen.

If this is for verification purposes, you want to complete the supporting documentation ASAP.

If it’s what is required for financial aid consideration by the college…they might have some leeway if these are received a little later. But ask at the colleges…because some will be more lenient than others.

Are you talking about IDOC? They should have sent you reminder email. If you missed the deadline, they cannot guarantee the same aid to be available to you even if it is a need met school. You should contact the school to see if it is still not too late to do that. When you apply to a ton of schools, it would be hard to follow all the status.

Sounds like a school with a 2/1 FA deadline, and the student waited until the last minute.

What happens is that they probably choose to give their money to someone else.

At at least one of my D’s school to get top priority all documents need to be in by the deadline. They distribute their financial aid among those whose applications they have then if they have monies left over it may be available to others. Only the individual schools can tell you if there is any leeway.
