what happens if I used a number 2.5 pencil on my sat?

I need answers from people who have seriously done this and know what the real outcome will be. I know that I am supposed to use a number two, so don't tell me that.

You must be kidding...

nope
i used it on at least one section

What? Seriously?!

hahahha ur screwed buddy, ru dumb?

Does it actually mess up the machine that much? I just thought it was a precaution.

I mean I've used mechanical pencils on the PSATs and I got awesome scores.

thank you for a serious response galoisien.

Help me out guys. I am seriously freaking out over here.

on the June SAT, my friend accidentally got a whole box of #3 pencils and we all used them on our SATs. Our scores all came out fine, I don't think it makes much of a difference. And as for mechanical pencils, the only reason they're not allowed is b/c you can store answers in the lead compartment, not b/c they mess up the machines. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine :)

thank you, thank you, thank you

If I'm going to store answers in my mechanical pencil, mightn't I as well use the calculator?

(NOTE TO PASSING CB FOLKS: NOTE THIS IS PURELY HYPOTHETICAL)

2 or #2.5. Are you dumb or something? Who would find out? You get worried about the weirdest things.

Lol... He isn't worried about someone "finding out"... he's worried about whether the machine will recognize marks made in 2.5 lead when it is designed for 2 lead.

You can always ask to be hand scored if in doubt.

cancel your scores OR have it hand-scored (the later is a better option).

it's likely you'll get a 0, though, since the machine DOES NOT pick up 2.5. so if don't decide to cancel you definitely need it hand scored.

EDIT: in response to the #3 pencil thing - I know somebody who used a 2.5 and ended up with nearly nothing.
so be careful, just in case. call CB!

it doesn't matter what you use

i've used mechanical pencils on the SAT's before and it has never messed up

I didn't even know there was such thing as a #2.5 pencil...

i've never even SEEN anything other than a number 2 pencil

My favorite is #pi.

how do I have my test hand scored?

I don't think the # of the pencil matters. It's the darkness of the pencil that matters.
