What happens if my instruction permit expires?

And is there any way to renew it? Mine expires in four days.

You mean for driving? It depends on your state. I recall reading that it's generally possible to renew them before they expire, or something like that ... you should definitely check the DMV website, or call them.

You should just be able to go to the DMV and get it renewed.

yeah you can get it renewed but you have to go in and retake the written test and pay the fee and bring in your proof of having taken drivers ed papers.

at least in california.

Get your license already.

I second dank's advice.

I can't do it in four days. :P

Ya it depends on your state I think.

My permit was expired for 3 months before I took the test (Missouri) but I wasn't supposed to be driving on an expired permit. Oops.

Well, I live in Missouri, and my permit expired a few months ago, and I went to get it re-newed last week. I had to go to the DMW; and I had to take a vision test, and they asked me to identify six road signs. After that, they took my picture, and then I got my re-newed permit and left :)
