So during the five minute break between the science and writing tests, I go to the washroom. When I’m walking back one of those proctors from my room has my test in hand and said “come with me”. So I follow him and ask him if there is a problem and he says that I filled in bubbles for another test (the math test) while I was taking science. He said the last question wasn’t filled when he wasn’t walking around, but I had finished the test completely before time was up. I argued with him and told him that this had never happened to me (which is true) and that the answer for the last question was already filled (which is also true). Since they were two proctors in the room and they were walking around, he said “to me your test seemed fine/idk”, (he saw how mad and surprised I was) and he continued and said “but to the other proctor it seemed that you filled in your answer” I was furious! How can they just assume that I filled in the answer with only one proctor saying that I did? This has never happened to me in my life. I was so angry. I still am angry. For this test I had my scores going to colleges. Are they just going to cancel the scores or are they going to say “0/Void”? I hope they just do not send the scores, If they do send the “void/0” this is going to make me look bad and I will fight against this because this is bullsh@t.
I do not know the answer to whether your test will be cancelled. However, if ACT begins an investigation based on the proctor’s report before your scores are released, it will withhold your scores until a decison is made, and if the decision is to cancel the test, ACT will send nothing to colleges.
From the ACT Supervisor Manual:
I take that to mean you weren’t supposed to leave before the writing test in the first place. That may be the reason your scores will be investigated and possibly canceled.
We were given a 5 minute break after the science test. You had to stay in the room unless you had to use the washroom. So we were allowed to leave, but only to use the washrooms.
The manual also states that:
The proctor was fair in dismissing you, even if he was the only one allegedly observing your behavior. Your answers will not be scored, so nothing will get sent to colleges, and certainly not with a zero.
Next, you should talk to the school. They might be able to schedule you to take the planned make-up test (more or less on March 17, depending on your state) if they deem it worthy/necessary. If not, it isn’t entirely a big deal; just take a national test (like the next one on April 18) and use that as a score. Nothing bad will show up on a report or anything, so it isn’t as if colleges will see any incidents that may have happened.
If you need anything else or need any additional arguments when talking to the school and/or ACT, the rest of the proctor’s handbook is available on the Michigan state website /documents/mde/ACTStateStandardTimeManual-FY144388257.pdf. I’ve been perusing through it and you may find it will help you understand what you or anyone else involved may have done wrong, if at all.
I emailed my principal about the issue. Everything has been resolved. Thank you.
Absolutely! Message me if you need anything else.
hey so i know this was posted a while ago but the exact same thing happened to me today and I was just wondering what exactly you did. Thanks!!
