What happens if you don't get an interview?

I know on the Columbia University website it says "candidates who are not offered an interview are not at any disadvantage in the admissions process", but I find that kind of hard to believe. Is it really true? And do alumni get to see your credentials and then choose who to interview? I guess the bottom line is, do more interviewed students typically get in rather than those who didn't receive one?

Thanks =)

to the best of my knowledge, the interview process is completely arbitrary. you are definitely not at a disadvantage because there is no possible way for the alums to get to every single applicant.

hopefulivy - please read my long columbia interview faq. it should explain your fears. and i know you find it hard to believe. but i want to assure you with experience here that indeed that is true.

Let’s see, admissiongeek’s post was made on the 2nd at 4:59 PM EST. It’s the most well-written, detailed, and thoughtful thing I’ve seen written on this forum. Its aim, I would guess, is to stop posts like this. And yet you made this post about 25 hours later…

One really wonders what are your chances even if you got an interview. Hey, maybe the email of invitation was sent ages ago and you came down with stupiditis and missed it.

College Confidential is serious business.
