What happens if you get caught drinking?

AUlostchick: I agree that thats a stupid idea, but why would someone rat a hallmate out? I dunno, sounds kind of harsh.

I kind of like reading these replies, because my school has Junior Advisors instead of Resident advisors. JAs are juniors (one guy and one girl) during the year that aren't paid anything to live with an entry of 20-26 frosh and basically be their "parents." Not parents in the sense of making sure you keep in line, but parents in the sense of making sure you get adjusted to college life, doing "entry activities," and taking care of the drunk frosh that seem to invariably come back on the weekend. Every year way more people apply than they can possibly take, and there is a very long review process. It's pretty awesome, actually.

We have basically the same program, ephyhymeswbeef, but we call them C's or RC's -- residence counselors, not advisers. There is simply no authority or oversight other than to be hte first line of defense on noise complaints after 2am.

aulostchick, R U SERIOUS!!! did they really arrest someone and kick them out of their room for smoking some reefer?!?!?! i am so glad i live in the promised land of California....that's just insane!

First time punishement is usually a slap on the wrist (small fine, essay, call home, or in the worst case scenario a few hours of community service).

It depends on your RA. Some will write you up, some won't if you're not causing any problems. If you do get written up here at VT you have to take some sort of class on decision making for the first offense. I think on the second offense your punishment is worse, but I also think you can get it reduced if you call your parents. I'm not positive though, and it'll depend on the school/who you're dealing with.

Hmm thanks for all the answers. I dont plan on getting caught or anything, i was just wondering. Actually last year my RA didn't care if people were drinking at all (there were beer bottles/cans/those really big cans whatevertheyarecalled) all over the guy's side of the hall (all the bottles in the end of the year was pretty amazing)

It really depends on school to school. I've had friends arrested for drinking (though I'm not clear on the circumstances...) multiple times, and I've had friends who were rushed to the hospital for alcohol poisoning but only got a slap on the wrist. It really depends. Also depends on your RA.

Many schools have policies where you can call the police or your campus's emergency medical service when someone is sick from drinking, and no one will get in trouble. My school has that policy and I think it's great- I've had friends at other schools who are lucky they aren't dead because their friends were too afraid to get help when the people were drowning in their puke. People aren't afraid to get help. I'm sure if you were getting written up daily that it could become a problem, but most schools aren't that strict.

My RA just sucked about it. There was often puke on our hall and so loud that we couldn't hear our TV on full blast. Luckily the few times that happened, someone else called the cops to break it up before my roommate and I had to resort to it.

Lol… then where would you say is the best place? Just wondering… I’m no pot smoker.

they are strict about it here. i passed out in front of my door, and got written up by the RAs. i am on probation until december 18th because of it, so if i get caught doing anything by the school or by the police, I will be out

damn, bro. what school is that?

So yeah, i’m from a very small college, ENMU. I just got caught with a full case of budlight and corona in my dorm. The RA’s decided to have a cop accompany them when searching my room. I got a M.I.P… ***? wish my RA’s where as laid back as that. I got no warnings, nothing.
