or two if you get deffered.

Exactly what percent of people that get deffered get into PENN in the RD round?

Around 10% give or take.

or 100% if your parents decide to buy a library for penn/ you cure cancer or aids, or my favorite, the double whammy (canceraid) / you win USAMO, IMO, and are an Intel STS winner in succession...

isn't 10% the acceptance rate for RD?

no.
RD acceptance is like 15% or so. it's very hard to get in after you've been deferred, but it DOES happen. i would know =)

afa, why is it so hard?

well, it's only slightly less than regular acceptance, but there's a whole new pool of applicants. i don't really remember why, but i'm assuming it's because if you weren't that outstanding the first time, there may be other more fitting/outstanding candidates RD. but they do take into account that you did apply early and thus will most likely go if you are accepted.

if you get deferred, writing a followup letter (maybe sending in a much better essay) is a MUST. without them you will have a much slimmer chance of getting in RD.

afa, what did you talk about in your (I'm assuming you sent one) followup letter? I'm just assuming I get deffered from wharton

i talked about why i wanted to go to wharton specifically... my motives and what i want to do w/ my wharton education in the future. it helped that it was a sort of humanitarian goal, i think. so i wrote about that and how i REALLY want to attend wharton because of such and such (described a few more specific things about wharton showing that i knew a lot about it) and then i proceeded to explain what event really changed my outlook on things and why i would want to attend wharton... i also sent in a new essay that was completely different from my ED one, and imo, much better.
