What happens do you guys if you miss school? Does it show up on your transcript or reports sent to colleges?

I'm debating whether or not to skip school a few days when I really need it (i.e. SATs, AP exams, etc.) and just call in sick or something. I mean, I'll be able to study at home more efficiently and some classes are just BS because you don't do anything except busy work in those classes...'

Are there any negative affects that it may have in getting accepted to colleges? Is there anything "wrong" with doing this?

Missing a day of school isn't a big deal, it happens to most people. I had to stay home today because I have a 101 fever.

Colleges won't notice a few absences, though they probably will show up on your transcripts (you might want to ask your counselor, as each school has a different system).

It's probably fine to skip school and study for the SATs if 1) you know you won't miss anything important and 2) you don't already have a lot of absences on your record (it sound like you don't).

Edit: Make sure to ask your teachers about missed work/notes the next day before class.

If i don't feel like coming to school I don't. I seriously doubt a few absences will have any impact on my application if my grades remain perfect...

During May last year (junior year) I basically didn't go to class. Almost every day I either skipped the whole or half the day to study for an AP/IB exam. Wake up, study, sleep. Or, wake up, study, AP __, sleep. Or, wake up, AP _____, go home early, study some more, sleep.

No one cares if you miss a day of school, just get a note from your parents saying you were sick or have your parents call the school and say your sick.

Unless of course you're parents are dumb like mine and won't sign anything like that. (I wanted to do this today because its "Career Day" and I don't have any real classes, but they said they wouldn't sign anything that was a lie. Hate this crap).

I know that missing one day won't kill me, I did it a couple times last year... but what if you do it A LOT? If absences don't show up on the official transcript to colleges, will it have no negative affect on your record/chances at all? I know that I can study more than if I sit in class and listen to all of the chatter and impertinent information we talk about.

Plus, wouldn't doing other homework in some classes actually make teachers angry than you not going? lol, I always feel guilty for doing other work in classes... I always think that teachers will start to purposefully try to drop my grade

I strongly believe in "mental health days". My mother and I have made an agreement that I can miss 2 days of school per semester for my chosen reason (given that it's not illness), which equates to 4 days per year. Sometimes it is due to just an overwhelming week, other times I just don't feel like going to school. It has never done any harm and I've been doing this since elementary school. I've only taken one so far this year as it hasn't been too stressful, but do what you think is right for your situation.

Side Note: During this time that I "take off" I don't just lazy around. I use the time to catch up on homework, and peacefully prepare for tests, ACT, SAT IIs and other things without stressing thoughts of school looming overhead.

My friend got to stay home today and work on his 15 page term paper (that I still have to do..) while I got to learn about stuff I already knew!

fringey323, what exactly do you mean your compensating for your Junior year? pointless post.... sigh, forgive me of my chronic disorder of severe addiction to CC.
