I think my guidance counselor won't get my columbia app finished by the Jan 1 deadline. Will I still be considered, and do they give time if your stuff isn't all in on Jan1?

Why wouldn't she finish in time? Most of the time these counselors can crank out a recommendation in an hour.

Actually, she already has written me a recommendation (which I assume she's going to use for Columbia), but the problem is she's swamped with a million other kids' apps. I go to a school where each counselor has like 400 kids.

bump same question

Run4fun88- i think I've found an answer. For the most part, colleges are lenient with the SSR and teacher recs, plus I think they'll notify you if something is missing

It sometimes says on the app that everything must be in by the deadline, but only the app and the application fee are really required. The other stuff filters in over time. Some colleges have websites where you can logon and see what they have received or found in the mail so far. If they have such a website, they will mail you a userid and password.

How about this scenario. My friend recently decided to apply to Columbia over winter break. She paid the app fee and finished the app online by the deadline. However, she hadn't given her teachers the recommendation forms, nor had she sent out her secondary report. I'm not really sure why she paid the app fee when she hadn't requested to send the secondary report and recs... I'm not even sure if the transcript office and counselors actually let her request to send all that stuff way after the deadline.

Last time I spoke to her, her theory was just what you said, how the other stuff "filters in over time." But would colleges really accept secondary reports/teacher recommendations that were requested AFTER the deadline, which means that it probably won't get there for several more weeks/a month?
