what happens if you're waitlisted?

how do you know so soon that you’re waitlisted?!

I disagree that there is no order to the waitlist and that it is just a “pool”. Last year my son was admitted to his first choice school but with 0 fa (so essentially a non-admit for us). The school did contact us to say how badly they felt and they told us that he was the very first person at the top of the fa waitlist and if by some miracle they got sudden funds, he would be the first one in. The even sent updates. Of course, no miracle cash came through! He was admitted this year, though, with the fa. I understand this could be a different situation because it was fa-related.

huh?
I’m not waitlisted, but just in case I am…

lol i didn’t ask you..
i asked the person who started the board =)

or at least i intended to haha

The short answer to the question here, “What happens if you’re waitlisted?” is you make plans to attend the school you are accepted at and can afford to attend. Period. If that isn’t obvious, here’s why:

Already, during this period leading up to March 10, there is too much hoping and fantasizing and emotional investment being spent on speculative opportunities. A little bit of this is okay, but for too many it’s like buying a lottery ticket and then asking a Realtor to show you estate homes on Martha’s Vineyard before the drawing.

After March 10, if your lottery ticket comes up with a “wait list” you can send back the card and indicate whether you want to remain on the wait list or not, but your energy – physical and emotional and intellectual and spiritual – needs to be zeroed in on your reality. Too much investment in an even longer shot of being accepted off a wait list deprives you of way too much, beginning with enjoying and optimizing the experiences you have at hand.

Trying to figure out what might be happening with respect to the wait list activity at a school that didn’t accept you outright is something you should spend exactly ZERO effort pondering…now or later, should you be on a wait list.
