what happens if...

i get accepted to michigan before they know my first trimester grades for my senior year .. and then my grades drop a little?

here's the deal. i have a 4.0 right now and i'm ranked 1 in my class (along with one or two others). however, until this year, i haven't taken any challenging courses. not because i didn't choose to, but because there were none available. i was taking the same classes as everyone else, and not to say I myself wasn't being challenged, but it wasn't difficult to obtain A's. of course I am a hard worker.

but! i'm taking AP english and AP calc and i'm struggling already. I'm going to try my best, and if i DO get into michigan I will still try my best to get good grades, however I think i will be looking at an A- or B+ in those classes.

there's nothing i can do about it. but I'm scared because if they see my grades drop in AP classes they will think I'm not ready for college courses. you know? but at the same time, it's not like an B+ is a horrible grade! right?

i just don't think I'll end up being valedictorian/salutatorian.. which I'm okay with.... I just hope michigan is too :/

BUT do you think they'd rescind my acceptance? how strict are they about grades after you're accepted??

A- and B+ is not all all a problem for Michigan. There is no way you will get your acceptance rescinded for that. Only start worrying when you get more than 1 C in a semester or trimester. Otherwise, you’re completely fine.

^Do, however, pull out the stops to do very well. Here’s why…as an ea applicant, there is the possibility that they will defer a decision for you until April. If your ea decision is deferred, they will be looking at transcripts of your coursework this year as well. Michigan likes to see the most rigorous courses available. If you perform radically differently under those circumstances, it could cause the adcom to believe you 4.0 was “inflated” at your school (meaning regular classes aren’t especially rigorous.) while they will not necessarily hold a few Bs against you, you do need to realize you are competing with students who have 4.0 averages and are taking numerous aps or honors classes or are in gifted/talented programs. So it is very worthwhile to do everything in your power to perform as well as you can – put the work first (eg don’t spend too much time at a job or ecs if it interferes with your academic performance.)

If you are accepted ea by dec. 22nd, then you do not have to worry about being rescinded unless you have 3 Cs or a D. But increasingly, ea applicants are deferred for later consideration seemingly due to the increased volume of applicants via common app and the delicate balance of instate/out-of-state ratios and past higher-than-expected yield rates. I tell you this not to worry you, but to help you prepare for what might be a stressful process that you can make better right now by pouring on the effort. Good luck!

If accepted, a slight drop in grades (Bs instead of As) is no problem. On the other hand, as GoBlue81 pointed out, if you are deferred, a slight drop in grades could doom you.

I remember reading something about getting an acceptance revoked at Michigan on their website when I applied. I think you either need at least 2 C’s or 1 D/F to even possibly get it withdrawn

I ended senior year with 2 Cs and never got a letter or anything. In most cases they won’t revoke your admission. I know that if you get certain grades you have to send in a 500 word letter explaining how you will not fail college. You’d have to do really bad to get your admission revoked.
