What Happens Inside a College Admissions Committee?

Applying to transfer at Vanderbilt and UNC. Just wondering what happens at the how applications are reviewed at top 20 school and at large public universities . What the differences what are the similarities ? What Happens Inside a College Admissions Committee?

The biggest difference is that your state of residence will matter for UNC but not for Vandy.

Read The Gatekeepers or another good college admissions book, and then add a few more variables for transfer students.

^^^ Residence does not matter for transfers to UNC.

Then why do they ask about residency on the transfer supplement?:

http://admissions.unc.edu/pdf/UNC_CA_Supplement_TRF.pdf

I don’t know, but they’ve stated multiple times on their blog and website that it doesn’t matter. It’s strange.

I didn’t see anything on the website, but I just found this on a UNC-CH Transfer blog from 2011:

So I posted a question on the current blog, giving this citation and the residency questions asked on their supplement. Hopefully they will clarify the situation soon.

Thanks for bringing this up, you learn something new each day :)!

Here’s the answer:

You know what I hate? When a very straightforward question is asked, and someone who’s job it is to inform, can’t even answer it adequately. What a lousy blog!
