I took the SAT for the first time, which means I got 4 free score reports. I'm not going to apply to college for almost 2 years, but didn't want to lose the free score reports. I chose colleges that didn't require subject tests, and weren't too selective in case I screwed up on the test. So, what will these colleges do with my scores if I'm not applying for two years (if I'm even still interested in 2 years)??

Uhm. It’s really hard to know. You’d have to e-mail admission and ask. My gut is telling me they won’t have them ready to attach to your application in 2 years.

I don’t think this will be the last time you’ll take the SAT. Most people do it at least twice. No harm in any case.

It’s not that I might take the SAT again (in fact, I know I will), but I don’t want the FREE score reports to be wasted. I sent them to schools where my expected scores would be above average (and my actual score was). I don’t want to have to pay an extra $40 to resend score reports if I apply to those colleges in the future.

So I guess my question is, will most colleges keep these scores on their own, or will I have to contact each one to keep track?

I wouldn’t risk sending reports to colleges at this point unless you are sure you are going to get a 2300 or better. My son took the SAT 3 times and we just weren’t able to use the free sends and had to pay the $40 when he was a senior to apply to the schools. It isn’t worth risking in case you score low. Especially schools that don’t superscore.

Just for clarification, I already took the SAT, and sent (for free) the scores to schools that are NOT selective. I just would like to know if they would likely keep the scores or if I would need to contact each college.

I really don’t think it’s likely that a non-selective college will keep your scores with NO other application info on file for 2 years, but it’s possible. You can’t really know how an individual admission committee keeps organized without asking.
