So I recently got accepted ED, and upon re-reading my essays I realized they contained REALLY personal family information. Is there any chance my essays could become public without my permission? Or do the admissions committees just read 'em and toss 'em?? I'm really concerned.... please help.

unsure…
I think it remains confidential, but some colleges write about the details of students’ essays with changed names. Hey, you’re in (congrats)! A call to the admissions office can’t hurt you.

I don’t think there is “any chance your essays could become public without your permission” (at least not in connection to your name). But I could be wrng.

No, I’m positive that your permission would be asked if they wanted to publish your essay for whatever reason (some schools post essay samples on their admissions websites).

I will tell you, though, that my academic adviser (so, a professor) got my essays as part of my “folder” that included a lot of stuff that was part of my admissions file–test scores, etc. I have no idea if he actually read them or not. But if something like that would bother you, go ahead and call to ask.
