What does the score report say? Does it say sometihng like "withheld?"

Do the tests show up on the score report at all? Or does CB just completely omit the tests that you choose to withhold?

Also, if I did poorly on 2 or 3 AP tests and fine on the others, should I just withhold all of them? Does reporting a 3 to selective colleges have an negative effect on my chances (would it be better to withhold or report a single 3, if the other scores I'm reporting are 4 + 5)?

The fact that you took a particular test stays on the report. There is a notation that says "grade cancelled at request of student."

I never saw any of my daughter's apps. None required AP scores as part of the application. I had her report sent after acceptance. Obviously, it didn't make a difference.

I'd recommend not sending the report, but mentioning them on the application. Sending the scores is a waste of money, they don't need them for application purposes and I wouldn't be surprised if you have to send them again for placement.

Just mention those scores that are worth noting.

I agree Send scores only once you hvae been accepted and are sending in your deposit. It won't matter then. They will only be looking at what credits you will earn for the 4's and 5's.

AP scores are rarely (almost never) used for admissions purposes.

I doubt it. My school lists them right on the transcript, and it's an easy way for admissions officers to gauge if the class you took was actually challenging and rigorous, or a blow-off A.

I would actually have to agree in the sense, that were AP scores ever by the adcoms that it would be one of the final considerations when either accepting or rejecting student. With that said, having a collection of 1's is obviously not going to help you, whereas a plethora of 5's is a nice addition, but these numbers would have to be in excess to really be of any value.
