What has high school thought you?

Did you like high school? Why or why not?
Kind of. I was so excited coming into it, with the prospects and possibilities and clean slate and everything. I loved having more freedom and responsibility to pick classes, etc. I liked meeting new people. But it’s been really hard as well, socially and academically, and it hasn’t lived up to my expectations, the ones that you can get from movies, etc, or just from people who say high school was the “best four years of their life”. It’s not.
Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
Yeah, I am. I never thought I’d accomplish some of the things I did, and I never thought I’d be so successful academically.
What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
I’ve learned that I can’t be perfect, and that nothing can ever really be perfect. You will never have the perfect friend group, perfect grades, a perfect body, you will never be the perfect version of you that you have in your head. But you can still be great. Even though I’m an introvert, that’s ok. It’s ok to have awkward moments and to make mistakes.
What has high school taught you?
It has taught me that when you work hard, you really can exceed your expectations. But it’s also taught me everything above. Also, geometry, physics, etc.
If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
I would worry less, a lot less, and stand up for myself more. I would stop worrying about everyone judging me all the time, and instead do what I want to do according to my own purpose. I would be more confident and believe that I could take harder classes and I’d challenge myself more. I would be more proactive and open socially.
If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
Nah, I want to go to college.
What was your favorite class?
Art.

English or AP US History
How did you manage your time in high school?
Badly.
What was your favorite thing about high school?
Idk… Growing up, and all of the experiences I’ve had

Awkward moments… Oh, I’m such an awkward kid. Also, feeling left out.

I graduated in June :’( 2013 BABY! WE SURVIVED DECEMBER 21, 2012!!! Anyways…

Did you like high school? Why or why not?
YES!! I loved it! ALL of my teachers were awesome, my social life flourished, I was a drumline member, and I had school-wide recognition. People would often say that if there was someone who attended my school and didn’t know my name, then they really didn’t attend my school!

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
Again, YES! My biggest accomplishment by far was being elected Homecoming King this year as a senior! Other big accomplishments included being named a Magna Cum Laude scholar on the National Latin Exam, gaining school-wide recognition, and a bunch of random academic awards!

What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
Never again will I be quiet and shy. Being anonymous sucks! In life, I would much rather dance than sit it out!

What has high school taught you?
It has taught me several things. First of all, popularity is super important! My high school career wouldn’t have amounted to anything without my popularity. Secondly, obstacles can be overcome. I was a product of the worst school district in Pennsylvania. When I entered my Catholic high school, I struggled freshman year. Despite this fact, I kept on fighting, and, eventually, I was winning several academic awards each quarter!

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
I would have taken AP classes. Even though I literally was barred from taking them, I feel like I missed out.

If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
HELL YEAH!

What was your favorite class?
This is extremely hard! However, I will say that English IV (senior), Honors Latin (senior), Theology III (junior), Theology IV (senior), Biology (junior), Chemistry (sophomore), Algebra II (junior), Anatomy and Physiology (senior), Physical Science (freshman), Theology I (freshman), Economics and US Government (senior), World History I (freshman), World History II (junior), Band (freshman, junior, senior), and French I (freshman) all stuck out!

8.Least favorite class?
Probably English I. I had the worst teacher!

How did you manage your time in high school?
Pretty terribly! You could always catch me doing homework in homeroom! :D

What was your favorite thing about high school?
The family feeling that we all shared. As a Catholic school, it offered an experience like no other. No public school was closer than my school. For example, when my friend’s dad died of cancer, the whole senior class wore purple in support of her. We (the senior class) also boycotted our class picture since her dad’s funeral was the day of the picture!

Did you like high school? Why or why not?
Yes, I did… to an extent. I like that it’s low-responsibility and you can have a lot of fun. However it does get very tedious at times and can be quite boring.

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
Not really. I guess I’ve changed as a person a lot but all the teams I’ve been on have sucked and I’ve never gotten straight a’s like I did in middle school.

What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
I’m privleged to be quite intelligent with above average looks and decent athletic ability.

What has high school taught you?
Facts in many subjects and to think skeptically.

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
My grades. I’m smart enough to go to an Ivy League school but my lazy gpa doesn’t back that up.

No I don’t wanna be 14 again.

Recent Graduate:

Did you like high school? Why or why not?
-Overall, yes, I think I liked it. I played soccer for 4 years so I had a group of friends I stayed with for my whole time there, and it made everything a lot better to have a group of guys to hang out with, have classes with, know, etc. It taught me a lot of life lessons that you can really only learn at this time in your life.

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
-Yes, I am. Academically I finished in the top 5% of the class and got into a top 50 school world wide, even though the school I went to is considered ‘under-performing’. Not to mention my class of soccer teammates swept our rival senior year for the first time in 8 years, that was really cool. My parents got separated mid way through my Sophomore year, and would have been an excuse to let my grades go down the toilet, plus I was dealing with some friendship issues that had the potential to be physically dangerous to people. But I didn’t let them slip and I’m proud of that.

What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
-myself: You can try, but you can’t change who you really are. And its not worth trying to change for anyone.
Life: You’re going to have a lot of letdowns in your life, be that academically, with the opposite gender, with your friends, parents, whatever it may be. You need to accept it with open arms and not dwell on the fact that it happened, but how to improve your situation instead.

What has high school taught you?
-Ride with your day 1 friends. haha. They’ll stay your best buds. Oh, and the friend zone is a fate worse than death. Once you’re in it, you don’t get out of it.

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
-See above, I wouldn’t have invested so much time (See: 4 years) trying to date this girl (who is now by nature my best girl-friend) who showed in the first year she had no interest. I would have been drastically different socially. Oh, and I would have paid more attention to the classes I scheduled Freshman and Sophomore year, I wasted a lot of credits on some BS classes that were neither fun or educational.

If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
-Nope. I’m a smarter, better, and stronger person than when I came in, and thats all that matters, in my opinion.

What was your favorite class?
-I loved AP Government. I don’t know why, but I was good at it and really liked the teacher. AP Human Geo comes in a close second.

Least favorite class?
-Honors Physics. I liked my teacher, but it was her first year teaching Physics and it was kind of rough. Plus they used a lot of calc in the honors physics class and I hadn’t taken calc yet…so I was lost and there wasn’t much I could do. Really bad experience.

How did you manage your time in high school?
-I took the ‘most rigorous academic load’ at school, worked a ~20 hour a week job, and played a varsity sport in the fall with workouts year around, so I was busy. Honestly by the time I was a second semester Junior, I no longer did homework at home. I had mastered the art of figuring out which teachers looked at what (completion) or if they really took it up and graded it. My first period homework was usually done in the student parking lot before class, and the next classes homework followed in the subsequent periods, lol. I figured sleep was more important. Hey, homework is really overrated in most teachers classes. Check their syllabuses, its usually worth, at most, 10% of your grade.

What was your favorite thing about high school?
-Playing soccer. I wasn’t even like a try-hard thats been playing for years, only 2 years of competitive soccer before freshman year, but it was the best total experience of my life. I started freshman year as a JV bench warmer, and worked my way to being a starter on Varsity. The bonding, the emotions, the competition…I’m going to miss it so much. I’ve never felt better or happier in my life than when we swept our big rival for the first time in 8 years.

Least favorite?
-Dealing with people who aren’t in your friend circle. Lol. I know this sounds like anti-social, but all of my problems I had socially in high school came from people I wasn’t good friends with. Every day has the potential to just turn into a nightmare.

Rate your high school experience (socially) from 1-10.
-6. I played a varsity sport, so that kind of put me with the cool kids (all of the ‘jocks’ at my school were smart anyway though) but I was never really in enough with the right cool kids to go to the parties and stuff. At school though I never had a problem having people to talk to or the dreaded ‘who do I sit with at lunch’ problem

Rate your high school experience (academically) from 1-10
-5. As I said, my school is kind of ‘under performing’ so we’re not the best all around. I took the hardest courses but it left something to be desired. I really got by with very minimal work for a lot of classes I should have had to work my butt off for. I never really ‘studied’ hard, so college is going to hit me like a truck. '

Its an experience though. And to any rising freshman reading this, don’t worry about college until you’re a second semester sophomore. You’ll worry yourself to death. Have fun, meet your best friends, play a sport, join a club, do it because you love it, not because Harvard wants you to.

Will college be better than high school? It had better be. If high school really is the best time of your life, then it looks like I have about 60 long years of misery ahead. : /

Did you like high school? Why or why not?

 • For the most part, yes I like it. I actually like my high school and I had some good times there.

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?

 • Um…yeah

What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?

 • I learned how to be more social, because I was very quiet in elementary and middle school so in high school I actually broke out of my shells a little bit and made more friends.

What has high school taught you?

 • A lot of things

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?

 • I wouldn’t. I think all of my experiences make me who I am today.

What was your favorite class?

 • AP Human Geography; I’m just very interested in learning about the world

Least favorite class?

 • Geometry HN; my freshman year math teacher actually thought I was really good at math and suggested I take an honors math class, so I did. Worst experience of my life. It made me realize that I am not a math person at all.

How did you manage your time in high school?

Q: Did you like high school? Why or why not?
A: Not really. At first it was all fun and stuff but now I’m glad this is my last year. My school is too competitive, and as time passed, everyone became neurotic and I’ve seen too many people just fall apart.

Q: Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
A: Of course! The things that I didn’t accomplish… are a different story.

Q: What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
A: Trying to impress people or be someone you’re not is a HUGE waste of time and just hurts you.

Q: What has high school taught you?
A: Push and pull. If I want to achieve something, I have to give up something else.

Q: If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
A: My freshman year was a mess. I didn’t take anything too seriously, and I wish I more comfortable with myself instead of just glancing around at what everyone else was doing.

Q: If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
A: Nope. If I did, I’d lose the bad times that I had, but I’d also lose the good times.

Q: What was your favorite class?
A: Strangely, it was my junior year english class. I never had an interest in english classes but my teacher was absolutely amazing and unlike any teacher I have ever had.

Q: Least favorite class?
A: Junior Chemistry class like I had the most disrespectful kids in my class and a teacher who never had enough spine to put them in their place.

Q: How did you manage your time in high school?
A: I didn’t.

Q: What was your favorite thing about high school?
A: The teachers who make a difference and walking to the thai cafe during lunch break.

Q: Least favorite?
A: People change, and I’m not gonna a drop a Perks of a Wallflower quote here. But people change and while it’s good sometimes, I’ve had friends who went from A+ student to someone who just gave up on life and it’s so alarming and I hate that this happens. It’s as if once you hit high school a switch flips and your life immediately ****s up.

^ You’re a lot like I am.

Rising sophomore, so I’ll just be answering based on my freshman year.

Did you like high school? Why or why not?
Freshman year was ok. High school is a lot better than middle school- less immature idiots and more opportunities. At my school middle school was really weird- all the kids who get a really high score on an obscure standardized test get put into an advanced section of ALL core classes (except math- that’s based on more testing), so I really only knew 40 kids in my grade well. High school classes are based on level of ability and not grade level, so I got to meet more people.

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
I’m happy with what I’ve done freshman year academically- got a bunch of prereq’s out of the way. But I should have done more extracurriculars.

What has high school taught you?
I suck at public speaking and am not as good at writing (in English class) as I was led to believe by the small pool of people I could call my classmates in middle school. I actually like/am good at history. Prerequisites are stupid. Life in high school is not as scary as you probably think right now.

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
I would have joined more clubs and done more volunteer work. Freshman year doesn’t ‘count’ when applying for college, but it is a really important building block to higher positions in clubs.

If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
I wouldn’t redo freshman year- I want to actually be able to pick my classes next year and have the opportunities open to sophomores. As for all my years of high school- I’ll just have to wait and see :D

What was your favorite class?
Tie between world history and preAP art.

Least favorite class?
English- the teacher was awesome, but the class is just as tedious as the ones in middle school. I enjoyed the readings though.

How did you manage your time in high school?
I’ve never had trouble with that. I kind of just set things to the side and I’ll finish them eventually. I did procrastinate on one biology project- I did the whole thing one night, but other than that I’m pretty good with time management. All those little techniques they teach you online really don’t help that much, in my opinion.

What was your favorite thing about high school?
Free periods and the much bigger and better art room.

Least favorite?
The rep freshmen get.

5, but that’s because my options have been limited by mandatory freshman classes.

Middle school was the worst, especially 7th grade (okay, I actually liked the 8th grade). I loved freshman year (not quite as much as junior year, though). I don’t like it when people are mean to freshmen. The poor things are already so nervous about high school! I remember my freshman year, I was in this one class where there was only one other freshman (everyone else was a junior). I ended up sitting in the front right corner near the teacher’s desk. I was scared of the teacher at first (I was afraid of pretty much anyone who wasn’t a freshman), but she turned out to be really nice, thank goodness! The juniors weren’t bad, either.

When I was a junior, there was this one senior who made fun of me for being an “underclassman” (even though juniors are upperclassmen). Some seniors can be pretty arrogant. I’m going to be a senior this fall, so I have nothing to worry about now!

I wonder if college is like this, with the seniors being arrogant and the freshmen getting picked on.

I am a senior in highschool and my advice would be do not get arrested…it really affects EVERYTHING. And can make getting into college a hassle.

Ummmm is this from personal experience?

My first half of high school wasn’t very awesome. After about halfway through junior year, high school finally became okay again. So current senior, I’m going to write in past tense though since I’m reflecting back.

Did you like high school? Why or why not?
Eh, if I had to do it again, I could, but not so willingly. It was definitely better than middle school. More people meant that even if one group of people rejected you, there were still people enough to hang with. It’s kind of pretty stressful, with some all-nighters in there, and my competitive high school didn’t help matters. Overall, I think I could have enjoyed it if I’d done a few things differently.

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?
I guess I am. I’m always told that I could have gotten a higher GPA or higher test scores or more awards, but it’s really too late to change all that.

What was the biggest thing that you’ve learned about yourself/life in high school?
I learned a lot about how I should study (not study overmuch), though I’m still not set on a method of studying. I learned what kinds of environments I like to learn in (discussion based, smaller classes). I also learned a little bit about how to put myself in others’ shoes.

What has high school taught you?
I feel like I haven’t really been taught by high school. I’ve learned about myself, and obviously I the stuff I’m supposed to learn in class, but I didn’t feel like they did anything to actually teach me anything. I guess one major thing I’ve learned is the brevity of friendships, and how most people won’t assert their feelings to you.

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?
I would’ve tried more actively to get involved, and also move on quicker. I didn’t know that there were separate robotics teams at my school, so I gave up after being rejected from one of them. In addition, I stayed with the same group of people who eventually I realized were not my friends. If I’d realized sooner, I may have had more friends.

If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?
Relive, or redo? Relive, no not really. Redo? Yes.

What was your favorite class?
I’m not sure, really. In terms of socializing, AP Physics C and AP Japanese. In terms of subject matter, my classes were all pretty boring. In terms of learning the most and retaining the information, Chemistry Honors, and so far, AP Econ (currently in that class).

Least favorite class?
Definitely all my history classes. Had the worst possible teachers all the time. Got away with them not hating me though. The history classes are super boring, the teachers basically recite the textbook in their monotones. Plus the history classrooms became freezing halfway through.

How did you manage your time in high school?
Um… Not at all? Running out of time here and there.

What was your favorite thing about high school?

A sophomore :). I would probably like it more if I was smarter freshman year and didn’t slack off, so now I don’t like t as much because I have to catch up to my gpa

Are you happy about what you accomplished in high school?

Noooo, not at all! I have a 3.0 gpa

If you could change one thing, what would it be? Why?

That it doesn’t matter what people think. Concentrate on you and build your future instead of caring what others think

If you could redo all your years in high school, would you?

Definitely my freshman year, in terms of grades
What was your favorite class?

Geometry this year! I absolutely looooove it

Least favorite class?

AP world history. Ugh…do I even have to explain why

How did you manage your time in high school?

I take naps after school and have a pretty spontaneous schedule, so I’d say I don’t manage it pretty well

What was your favorite thing about high school?

The people i met and the lessons I learned

Least favorite?
