This question is mostly for Case students...

More info please. I have no idea what you are talking about, and since I'm still undecided about where to go...

Well I've heard that Case is 40 some million dollars in the red and the president has just been removed. I wanted to know if this has meant anything for the students so far...

I've been wondering about this some too, despite having already commited to going there...I'd reccomend checking out this link (a CWRU alum. blog) to get some info

I'm a freshman at Case. Hundert's leaving really hasn't affected the life of your average student. The direction of the university 10 years from now might be different depending on the new pres, but for students here now, nothing has changed.

The interesting thing is that Tuition revenue has been larger than projected over the last 3 years. Research funding has increased at a lower rate than they projected. And Unrestricted Gift Money has rapidly declined over the last 3 years; this seems to be a problem.

It would not seem fair to expect further Tuition increases to be used to close the budget. Perhaps at some point services seen by students will be cut back.

I believe there may be a move to have more CWRU alumni involved in the Board of Trustees in the future and an interim President is being brought in (from Syracuse) who is a CWRU alum.

It means very little. The President really dosen't affect student life that much, and it seems that the budget problems effect prefessors and research budgets more than if effect students. Case has a huge endowment (like 1.5 billion i thionk) so its not going anywhere.
When i applyed to Case we only had an interim presedent like we do now, and it was no big deal. Hundert was installed my freshmen year just like who ever our next president will be instaled when you all are fresmen. hopefully he'll last longer then you four year, but if he doesn't i doubt it will affect you much

from psatmadness mom:

I am an academic at a major university. i can tell you that president's leave all the time....in various stages of honor or disgrace. It doesn't mean a thing for Case's future.

As for the financial: it is correct - endowments have nothing to do with the deficit - that is operations only. That is, Case took a risk to build the new dorms, buy into the new food service, build new buildings. They expected to be in a deficit they just didn't expect to have to pay it off as soon as the trustees are asking. They will be fine. And, scholarships etc. are all from endowments so they will be fine too.

Case is a good institution. It is doing many of the right things.
