Go UCB Bears!

C'mon, even UCLAri knows that the bruin is not a real bear . . . kinda like their theme song isn't really original. And UCR's mascot is the Scottish highlander, and as far as I know not a bear.

No one has posted on this thread for a bit, so let's continue...I'm choosing Davis over UCB and USC because I love the small-town college environment that the city of Davis offers. Like I have said in other posts, when I spent time there, I loved that everyone, the students and professors, were so friendly and willing to share information and make our experience awesome. Anyone else turning down Berkeley? I'm curious to see what your reasons are.

Last year, my 3 friends from community college:

1 guy got accepted to UCB, UCLA, Davis, UCSD..... end up choosing UCLA over the rest. He is a bio major and felt the bio opportunities at UCLA would be better than at UCB. He was a 3.9 gpa community college transfer, pre-med.

Also, another guy got accepted to UCB, UCLA, Davis, UCSD, UCI........ end up choosing Davis over the rest, 3.9 gpa community college transfer, biochem major going into dentistry

Also, another girl got accepted to UCB, UCLA, Davis, UCSD, UCI, 3.8 gpa biomedical engineering major, end up choosing UCB. Prestige was too important to her, whereas the other 2 guys above passed up UCB.

I'll be applying to grad schools next year after I finish my junior year at Davis. I'll be applying to UCLA, UCSD, and UCB. Let's say I get into all 3. My first choice school would be:

1st: UCSD - relaxed atmosphere, slower paced environment than LA, Pacific Ocean view
2nd: UCLA - Westwood environment better than Berkeley environment
3rd: UCB - great reputation

I place UCB as 3rd because I just don't like the city of Berkeley and its poor shady looking environment. A big reason for its **** poor environment is because of its close proximity to Oakland. I live about 30 minutes from Berkeley. UCB is an outstanding institution, but I hate the town and environment that its in. If you've driven along University Avenue off I-80 leading up to the campus, it looks dreadful.

im turning down UCSD for davis for pretty much the same reasons as brightandshiny. also i know a few people at davis already which makes things much more comfortable for me. =)

I chose UC Davis over UCLA and UC Berkeley. They have my major (Atmospheric Science) and I genuinely liked the atmosphere of the campus much better.

i'd be turning down George wasington U, UCI, Occidental

all of u guys are missing the point here...and thats why these threads don't help us incoming freshmen at all...
first off.....you cant compare really compare davis with other schools in rankings b/c every school has a diff speciality.

collegemom:
i am an incomign freshmen.....i dont think i care about how many acres does a college have....they'r all UCs...im sure they have enough space to accommodate our needs..
secondly....what I have found out so far....
if ur goin in med, goto Davis
if ur goin in something like comp science ( as me) ...goto UCI
for physics..goto UCSC
oh ya and UCLA, UC BERKELEY and UCSD...beat all other UCs in almost every aspect...except Davis in agriculture....
too bad i didn't get in them
but the point being here is that all UCs are good......its just that every college has a specific area that they concentrate on...and put a lot of money for research and stuff.

so quit fighting....
if you can...tell us wat these college's specialties are ...thats wat er incoming freshmen strive for....
as far as the surroundings go.....we all go visit them b4 we pick our college....so no need to fight over which college has more meters squared under its hood

oh ya and my bad guys...
u guys can go ahead keep telling which colleges u guys turned down
i just wanted to kind of clear things up for people like collegemom...if she is still readin this thread

*Dear Nate,

On behalf of the faculty, staff and students of the University of California, San Diego, I congratulate you on your admission to Thurgood Marshall College as a major in Electrical Engineering! UCSD is one of the nation's most outstanding universities, and we look forward to welcoming you to our campus.*

I just got accepted to UCSD today as a transfer student. I was truly 50/50 between UCSD and Davis. UCSD gave me $0 for financial aid, but Davis awarded me $12,300, making my decision much easier now.

So it's official that I'll be choosing Davis over UCSD.

Go Ags! lol :D

congrats on making your decision nate!

Turned down the following:
Sac State
San Jose State
University of the Pacific
Mills College (all girls college...of course I'd turn it down lol)

None. UCD was the highest ranked school I got into.

Wow this thread is still here? I'm transferring out. Got into LA, Georgetown, and NYU!!!

I chose Davis over UCSD.

;)

I regret not reading this thread sooner. At least now I know I'm not the only one who finds the BS reasoning (campus size, grad school, diversity, etc.) illogical and uninformative.

Oh yes, as for the "mistake" in U.S. News Report ranking, look here:

The mistake was made in 2005, the current ranking by U.S. News Report does not have this misreporting. And oh, look at that, UCD moved up one spot after dropping 8 spots.

I got into Berkeley & UC San Diego, but I am going to Davis because it is 1) closer to home and 2) my parents like it (and since they're the ones with the bank account, I have to go there, lol).

eh, I turned down Cal Poly and UCI...it was a really tough choice between Davis and Cal Poly, but there were a lot of factors that played into the final decision.

I'm not sure I'm completely happy, but whatever way you look at it, UCD is an amazing school.

Go Aggies! (er, can anyone, by chance, tell me what an Aggie even is?)

swifty27, both Cal Poly and Irvine are good schools so congratulations on that. I am not completely happy to go to Davis either, but as long as I am out of my house I am good!
