What holiday gifts are you buying (or receiving)?

I’ve told them that they will inherit them someday!!! If they trash them, at least I won’t know about it.

He’s “local enough” that there’s nothing from here that would be “cool.”

We have a large box of ornaments from when my daughter was little. So much money spent at hallmark on cute Disney character ornaments etc. Then I have a second box of just the handmade ornaments. There is even one from when I was a kid. Most years we decorate with just the handmade ones. Last year, my daughter (who is in charge of the tree decorating), decided to just put on red bows (oh we have a box of those too). So none of the ornaments were used.

The year we were married I bought my wife the Swarovski annual Christmas ornament. I’ve given her one each Christmas since. A full set of 28 and growing.

I did the same the year LEO son was born, and have ever since. Then I did the same thing for soccer son. Neither knows about the ornaments. I’ll give the ornaments to them for Christmas the year they get married.

At this point I have 73 Swarovski ornaments in the house. If they don’t want them when the time comes, the boys can sell their set for good money.

That is something I would have LOVED!

The issue could be the worth of things like ornaments when it comes time to dispose of them and whether our kids even want to bother with trying to sell them. We have lots of ornaments whose worth I’m sure is much less than when bought(Lenox, Wedgwood, Royal Copenhagen, etc.). And the knick knack things are also things many kids just don’t want and many have also lost value (hummels, Royal Doulton, etc .) We have lots of things, including antique furniture handed down, that I just don’t think anybody will want. Sons have taken a couple smaller pieces of furniture, but doubt they will want any of the bigger pieces.

It’s a little sad but many kids seem freer to just saying no to taking on more stuff these days. I wish we had not taken on as much old family stuff as we did because now we will have to figure out how to get rid of it!

Our family isn’t into special ornaments, but I :hearts: LOVE :hearts: the idea of including visitors in the family traditions.

That’s all.

Last year I gave my kids a box with all their ornaments. These aren’t a collection, but were gifts some friends gave them, some they made in school, girl scouts, that they got for a special reason…they weren’t all that thrilled but I was happy to get them out of my possession.

This year they are getting all their documents - birth certificate, baptism, adoption, old passports. Again, I don’t expect them to jump for joy, but they’ll be out of my house.

If they don’t already have a firebox, it might be a good time to gift them one.

I got the fire boxes, now just have to sort the documents

I gave my oldest her ornaments several years ago - I think I still have a couple for our tree. My son’s wife does a “theme” tree - so doesn’t use collected ornaments so I still have his and they go on my tree - I always save a few for him to hang when he comes over. Still have my youngest ornaments too on my tree - she’s in a shared apt and their tree is teeny tiny!

I saw this item this morning and thought it might be a good gift idea for the hard to buy for or someone who has a college student in a dorm or someone living in a place with a small bathroom/single sink. Turns a single sink into a vanity of sorts for applying skin care, make up, etc. It’s pretty clever!!
