What house do you want to live in?

Big april packages are on their way soon… anybody have any ideas on where they want to live? Some current students posted a while back with some insider info, which was pretty sweet.

I’m going for

 1. hill - double
 2. spruce - double
 3. ? hoping it doesnt come to this haha

basically, this forum was desperately in need of a post that wasn’t begging for analyzation of their chances or their application.

i would want either the quad or hill.......actually my tour guide told me to pick hill..

kceh level 3 (or maybe 4).....i have no choice lol

I'll probably ask for KC.

you're in a sweet program dosto, but all of that uber-brilliance in one place is probably going to drive you insane.

one recommendation guys, keep in mind that penn doesnt guarantee housing and also keep in mind that when applying your soph+ years for housing - people who have lived in a house get preference in that house...so I'd suggest looking into the high rises so that you get preference soph+ years. Right now a ton of people are having trouble with housing...a lot of people are now homeless for next year and are looking for off campus housing which at this point is pretty hard to get.

thanks neo.....it'll be insane to be around all those geniuses at once....i'll see how it goes

kings court ( obligatory for huntshombre program). Oh Well. It'll be cool

Haha, I think it's so hilarious that people actually think Hill is a good place to live. It really goes to show how well Penn marketing can brainwash people. Hill was originally a man's dormitory with all single rooms, and now they house two people in those single rooms. It's pretty close to a prison...Basically in housing, people choose Quad if they're uber social and love to party, and King's Court if they like a more mellow and small community atmosphere..As for being left out of housing in soph+ years, just make sure to apply to any residential program which is a free ticket to housing of your choice

allez....que est-ce que te langue pour huntsman?

o yea...i cant speak french..darn

Um fyi, most people who live in Hill absolutely hate it - the rooms are ridiculously small, though you will bond with other people who live in Hill, just because there's no space.

I think the Quad is the ideal place to live freshman year - the size of the room depends because all the rooms are different, but it's definitely social and the Quad is beautiful. If you want a big room, go for KCEH.

quad, gregory, then KCEH

Well, most of these comments shot down my high expectations of the hill dorms. My alum also called it a prison.. so I guess i really was brainwashed by penn marketing.

So basically, on the slim chance that i got into the quad, i'd probably end up staying there four years - with the alternative being off campus housing or homeless? is the policy meant to discourage moving around, protect people from being booted , or what?

about how much is the average off campus apt? and how far are they from campus?

dostoyevsky, my target language is spanish.

In the interest of accuracy, when I was at Penn/Wharton in the stone ages (early 1970's) Hill was an all women's dorm, I'm not aware of it ever being an all male dorm. If you really want to live in the quad, which is an experience I highly recommend, I suggest you write an essay for specialized housing and be open as to the kind of room you want. And I wish you all luck getting in.

bern700...I will be attending Penn to complete the last two years of my undergrad degree. Alhtough I am an undergraduate student, Because I am in my 30's, Penn clasifies me as a graduate student, therefore suggesting I live in graduate housing, Samsom East/West. Do you know anything about Samsom Place? Thanks...

the samsom place buildings are not too bad. The apartments are decent sizes and they have quiet hours and stuff for studying. It would probably be a good idea to live in one of these buildings so that you can meet people...if you really dont care about that then look off campus there are some nice places. I tried to get a place in the Left Bank apartments which is an luxury apt complex (where ivanka trump lived as an UG) but they did not allow me to rent as I'm an undergrad (new management). If you can afford it then I'd suggest looking there. It actually would be decently priced if you shared it with someone.

Thanks, Bern700...After I send in the application with the $25.00, I wonder what the odds are that I actually get a room in Samson Place? I'm not sure how quickly they fill up, etc.

Thomas..Sansom Place East/West houses med, law, dental, education grad students but lots of people from these schools only choose to live there during the first year and then move off campus/downtown. There are about 7 reserved floors for undergrads; I presume you'll be on one of those floors since you are an undergrad.

Sansom fills up, but it doesn't fill up like say the Quad or the high rises-- undergrads don't live there just because their friends don't--unless they have special move-in/move-out requirements like for athletes. What type of room did you request? Single apartments (with kitchens) are obviously harder to get. You should be fine w/ housing.
