College Choices:
-Univeristy of California Berkeley
-Cornell University
-Johns Hopkins University
-Wellesley College
-Smith College
-New York University (and Stern)
-Haverford College
-Carleton College

Thank you so much! I will chance back

While you had a death in the family, most of these top colleges have 90% of people at the top 10% of their class, including athletes, legacies, VIPs, etc… So I would look that number up for these colleges. My guess is that the death explanation won’t help too much. Your GPA is pretty low. Too low for at least Berkeley, Cornell, JHU, Wellesley, and I think Carleton. I don’t know much about the others.

Cornell: Reach
Berkeley: High match (if OOS full-pay)
JHU: Reach
Wellesley: Match
Smith: Low match
NYU CAS/Gallatin/Steinhardt: Match
NYU Stern: Reach
Haverford: Reach
Carleton: Reach

Do you have a safety?

yeah U Maryland College Park…I am from Maryland too

anyone else?

I disagree with the others. Your EC’s are quite solid, and your GPA is good enough in my opinion. I’m making a slightly similar case with dealing with a long-long disability and still doing well in school when making my case to colleges. I think NYU and Berkeley are definitely likely! :)

Check out my thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1443598-chance-me-marist-college.html

All the reaches that CATRIA mentioned are I think are actually Low Reaches or even Matches for you because of your AP scores, Golden rule: 5 APs with 5s

The reaches are reachable, I’ll grant you that, maybe I was overly harsh on certain schools.

NYU Stern: High match
Haverford: High match
JHU: High match
Carleton: High match

I disagree with fatherofm. Aps are self reported and barely looked at by the colleges if at all. GPA is low but act is good. You ll get in at some and rejected at others

Seven or eight years ago, five Advancement Placement exams with a score of five would warrant the top score in Duke’s achievement category. Today, about half of the applicants meet this standard.

This is from Duke, You can imagine other schools. Words of MR. Guttentag.

Thanks so guys for the feedback! Yeah I know with my GPA my chances at some of these schools are quite slim, but you only apply to college so many times. And fatherofm thanks so much for your encouragement, I kind of need it after being rejected from my dream school. :)

-Univeristy of California Berkeley: high match
-Cornell University: reach
-Johns Hopkins University: reach
-New York University (and Stern): high match

Good luck!
Chance back?
