What I dont get about UC's admission

Hi guys.. I was always wondering about how UC schools evaluate GPA....can someone give me insights on this?

We all agree that GPA numbers mean nothing without context... 4.0 on schools that literally give out free A's cannot be viewed as same as 3.8 on schools that require hard work to achieve A's... So class rank/percentile helps us to prove our GPA, and Private schools use each school's profile to evaluate GPA in context.

However, for UC schools, applicants merely type the numbers in for a class.. like 88 or 98..But these numbers mean nothing without context... What I realized from Berkeley's admission is that they value heavily on GPA... and my guess is that applicant with 96,97,98,95s will just get in just because it LOOKS good compared to applicant with 85,90,87,86 in another high school... But without school profile, one cannot evaluate the GPA..

Why do UC schools not ask for school profile? or class rank at all?????? or even class percentile????
1/400 with 3.5 with 80s is way more impressive than 50/400 with 4.0 and all 90s..but it seems like UC schools would never know about that.

I honestly dont get it... it just seems so unfair.

For California high schools, UC admissions readers do have information about the high schools, so that they can assess courses and grades in context of high school.

Not sure how they handle those from out of state high schools.

Also for California students, they should theoretically know your class rank since they use class rank to determine ELC status.
