What I Learned in High School

Most public high schools have a few really good teachers. Find them and take as many classes as possible with them.

A clean bathroom is a luxury.

Don’t ever be a girl’s friend.

Most teachers and administrators don’t care about you if you are a good student (and thus will easily pass the standardized tests).

Buckets are the best way to solve the problem of a leaky roof.

There is a big difference between a 14-year-old freshman and an 18-year-old senior.

Most people who are “smart” in middle school aren’t very “smart” by junior year.

Most girls only want a guy who has a car and access to beer and drugs. If you don’t drink/do drugs, forget about most relationships with a slightly attractive girl.

Expect very little good advice from your guidance counselor.

My high school was more diverse than any elite college can ever hope to be.

The 18 year-old senior girls who date 25-year-old men are really cool.

Good luck if you are a white male in an urban, over-crowded high school who wants to learn (But, don’t worry, you have a much better chance to succeed than the black kid who goes to Andover).

Don’t expect to ever hear both sides of the story.

Most of this was very true for me, too. Except for #10 (In the words of one teacher, we've got 'all kinds of white people') and #11 - I didn't get #11.

Super true for me.

My high school is the most diverse in the country, and most of this applies. Although, I got better looking girls before I started using drugs and alcohol.

Wow. I disagree with a couple of them (namely, 3,8,11, & 12). They don't apply to my high school experience so far, that is.

Interesting thread, though. If I may, I'd like to add the following.

Anything you say can and will be used against you as often as possible, and as distorted as imaginable.

Most people who are “smart” in middle school aren’t very “smart” by junior year.

That is so true.

I think these hold true in my school
1,2,6,7 and 9

meh, I dunno, I don't really agree with most of those, besides the obvious one's (ie. the bathroom one).

2, 4, 6 (worse if you go to a 7-12 school :D), 7, 9, 10, and 13 are so true at my school.

They're all true for my school, except for 5.

Lol Texas sucks!

6 is quite true. I realize that in 2 years I will become beyond apathetic.

pretty much none of these except 5 apply to my school...

stupid leaking roof...

Well, in elementary school, I was practically a prodigy. (OMG he can spell...)
In middle school, still cruising along with A's...
8th grade, Algebra, first C ever. It was a horrible teacher though. In algebra 2, I got A's.

In high school, I'm no longer the best. Other people just took a while to catch up and/or surpass me.

I know of a girl who used to be SO smart, and once we got into high school, she did worse and worse each year. She got A's in middle school and maybe freshman year, but she ended up with low B's by junior year... Not exactly a great trend. I guess you'd rather be "stupid" in middle school and catch up by freshman year of HS.

Another thing I've learned in high school

Contrary to what your teachers preach it IS possible to write an entire midterm the night before its due and not be OMG-its-3-in-the-morning-I-need-to-finish-this bad.

i was considered a walking dictionary in elementary school,.

not anymore lol

I'm 1/2 way through high school, and I have learned that it is ok to procrastinate... SOMETIMES.

You gotta give yourself a break once in awhile!

12 is sadly true at my high school.

.... and is why I'm transferring

its not true that attractive girls will only want to go out with guys who have cars/drugs. its just that the guys who don't have them are too afraid to ask them out. also, they are probably going way out of their league and that's why their rejected. if they just asked a girl similar to them they probably wouldn't get rejected.
