what if a friend found your account on CC?

if a friend found your account on CC by accident, what would you want them to do?

--keep quiet and not tell you
--tell you (and maybe tell you their username as well)

i'm actually in this predicament right now and i'd really appreciate it if the people who post in HSL often answer. i just want to be considerate to my friend, yeah?

(i made a new username in case my friend prefers option 1)

thanks!

I would want it to be a private thing, unless I was very close with that person. My best friend knows about how much I worry about college, but personally, I wouldn’t want a bunch of other people knowing, you know? A lot of personal information goes on CC. Like stats. Dream schools. Even financial info at times. Maybe bring up the website, say you were thinking about joining, and ask if they have heard of it? If they respond weirdly or say no, they probably want it to be kept a secret.

This person knows that I know that they have an account and use it regularly. The person also knows that I regularly use my account (it’s not this one).

This happened to me, and I was semi-embarrassed, but it hasn’t come up since. I knew she had posted on here, because I saw that she had this website up in a closed window when I saw a screenshot from her computer. It made more sense for her to be on here, though, since she was a senior at the time it was taken. I wouldn’t really mind people knowing that I posted on here…I just don’t know if I’d want them having my username.

I agree with franzferdinand. A lot of personal information is put up on CC that you wouldn’t exactly feel comfortable with other people you know in real life knowing. I guess it would really depend on the person, though. I’d be OK with some specific friends of mine knowing the things I’ve written here on CC, but then again I also wouldn’t feel comfortable with other specific friends knowing the same.

Thanks for the replies. It’d be great if everyone could be more specific and say, “I would want my friend to do this_______.”

I’m hoping that my friend will post in this thread tell me what they want me to do :)

Like I said, it depends. I wish I could give you a direct answer, but ultimately depending on the person and your relationship with them, they will act in a different way. I guess shoot for the best and bring it up as a conversation starter.

Hahha that would be so embarrassing! I’d like to keep my rep at school as the “smart but chill” girl…I’m definitely NOT chill inside

Did decemberbug and doq483 make new accounts JUST to post in this thread? lol…

It actually brings up an interesting point, because if the person was found by, say, their friend reading their “chance me” thread and noticing the poster’s specific activities, then it might prove that person has strong e.c. activities, easily identifiable and unique.

omg I can’t even imagine this happening to me. I hope nobody around me even knows the existence of CC. I certainly won’t tell anyone. Here is just my world with you guys.

This already happened to me. It’s not that bad, I only was sort of judged lol.

I wouldn’t even want my very best friends to know about it… I have nothing to hide, but I feel like it’s just… I don’t even know how to explain it… It’s almost like they’d be reading my diary. I mean when your posting with an ‘alias’ you shouldn’t have to worry about answering to your friends… Does that make any sense? Sorry I’m not much help…

It’s happened to me, because I’m stupid and use the same username for like everything.

No one cared though. If they’re your friends then they won’t judge you for posting on a forum, and if they aren’t your friends then just get over it. Who needs 'em?

I know someone who people knew but weren’t really friends w/ find out about his account. It was bad b/c they totally judged him and proceeded to, at some time, stalk his posts and make fun.

Lol, I would be like
“I found out the truth, Friend. I found your CC account. I read all your posts! Oh yes… I know about that thread you made talking about that girl you’re having problems talking to in school and I know exactly who she is! I know who you like now!” :D

Umm…I guess I missed something, but I don’t really get what the big deal would be. I wouldn’t care if my friends knew I posted on this site from time to time, they just don’t because they don’t know about the existence of this site.
But why shouldn’t they know? Sure, personal stuff gets posted, but if they’re your friends, they probably know all that stuff anyway…
Just my $0.02

Yah, I like to keep it personal. My username is something that’s really random. So no body in my school would know it’s me. I like being custardapple101 online and then in school, I am someone else. I don’t tell anyone what college I want to apply to because they just laugh that I have big dreams.

^Lawl, I just realized that I can stalk you all over teh internetz.

Exactly the same except that I have multiple usernames online hence

wouldn’t be possible.
