What if AP score and Subject Test score don't match up...?

Hi there,

I know none of us are adcoms and I know no one will have a definite answer, but I'd just like to get everyone's opinion on what would happen if your AP test scores differed from your Subject Test scores, or the other way around (is there a vice versa to that? lol).

I'll use myself as an example, since that's why I'm asking: I got a 5 on the AP Chem test but got a 640 on the Subject Test. Likewise, I got a 4 on the AP French Lang. test but an 800 on the SAT II test. How do you think the adcoms would see this or any score discrepancies?

btw…how hard is the french subject test…and are u a native french speaker?

Perfectly understandable.
5 on Lit and USH, but couldn’t break the 700 barrier on either Subject Test.

Ultimately, be advised that SAT II scores carry much, much more weight than AP scores.

I think about 30% of those who took the AP exam got 5 on Lit and USH.
at 700 on the subject tests, you’d be at 90%+

Maybe kwu fell in the 80%, which qualified him for a 5 on the AP exam but couldn’t break the 700 mark on the subject tests.

Hey, honey: I missed you! : )

Literature:
In the 2007 administration, 298,478 students took the exam from 12,238 schools. The mean score was a 2.87.

The grade distribution for 2007 was:
Score Percent
5 7.0%
4 20.9%
3 33.3%
2 30.2%
1 8.7%

USH:
In the 2007 administration, 311,000 students took the exam from 10,465 schools. The mean score was a 2.74.

The grade distribution for 2007 was:
Score Percent
5 11.0%
4 19.9%
3 22.2%
2 26.1%
1 20.8%

So, 93rd and 89th percentile respectively.

A 700 on SAT II Literature places one in the 82nd percentile, and a 700 on the SAT II USH places one in the 78th percentile.

yeah, i wonder this too. I got a 4 on chem, but a 760. likewise, a 5 on bio but a 720.

Ha. It’s my theory, which makes perfect sense. Plus, I’ve seen the 30% number floating around somewhere, maybe it was for Calc BC. My shortcoming, I know.

Nah, not 30 percent: 43.5 : )

Calculus BC:

In the 2007 administration, 64,311 students took the exam from 4,672 schools. The mean score was a 3.71.

The grade distribution for 2007 was:
Score __ Percent
5 __ 43.5%
**4 ** __ 17.9%
3 __ 18.8%
2 __ 6.4%
1 __ 13.5%

You were part of the lucky 17.9 percent, my beloved.

I feel like a failure.

Says the talented young woman who had been admitted to the best college in the U.S. with an 800 SAT Math II score, and who is considering Differential Equations and Linear Algebra next semester… though she still has to get those Maxwellian Relations down : )

My friend: 5 on AP Physics, 710 SAT Physics
Me: 4 on AP Physics, 730 SAT Physics

JJ09-im with ur friend… got a 5 on AP Physics B but a 710. really weird… i dont get it
