What if I don't correct a factual error in CommonApp?

In my CommonApp ECs, I unintentionally put one award for Science as Math (I don’t know what caused the subject mishap, but it happened unfortunately).

Ofcourse, I have been told time and again that this trivial mistake won’t make or break my admissions. It may even go unnoticed.

I have read on some threads that it is best to simplify notify the schools. Unfortunately, I am applying to around 10 schools and sending each one a mail is a little tedious (especially with my exams going on).

Do they, if they want, ask for some proof? Can I just forget about it?

Is it possible that the Adcoms think I intentionally lied just to get more brownie points (Comp Sc needs math more than science)?

Is it really necessary I email to all of them?

Don’t worry about it. THey have so many applications to read, they will take your word and since it was an lapse of judgement, they need not know. Of course if it was a major particular award known nationwide, then yes. Lying is not cool and it is best to just forget it and don’t do it again. If for some reason (99.9999 won’t happen) they called you out on it, just say, it was a mistake. NO DO NOT email anyone.

I’m not going to whether or not it would be a benefit to correcting this particular mistake, but I did want to point out that emailing admissions to correct a mistake is not as time consuming or difficult as you make it out to be

Simply:

  1. Look up the email addresses of the admissions departments you are contacting
  2. Copy and paste them into the BCC potion of the email you are sending
  3. Write the email to update the admissions office of the small error
  4. Click send, and you no longer have to worry about it

If you do decide to go through with it, you don’t have to do it now. You could do it on the weekend or after exams. It seems to be giving you a lot of stress, so at least this will give you peace of mind

Unless you’re talking about winning a big, nationally recognized math competition, then the odds of them looking into it or even thinking twice about it are essentially zero. I’d forget about it.
