<p>Before applying to study medicine in the UK you need to find out whether there are any UK government quotas set on the number of international students. There aren't generally for studying at UK universities, but there certainly have been for medicine in the past. This is because one of the main purposes of medical students is to provide the future doctors for the National Health Service. The UK Government doesn't want universities to channel their resources into training up loads of doctors who then go and work in other countries. Acceptance rates for medicine are already low; the effect of quotas can be to reduce them to almost impossible levels.</p>
