What if I drop an AP course right now?

Hi, I applied to Upenn via early decision. I’m thinking about dropping one of my AP classes. (Chem, because when I chose to take this class i was thinking about doing engineering but now I’m committed to business so this class has no importance to me - just a lot of tiring work and bad grades)

If I do so before the admission results are in, will it decrease my chance of getting in?

And if I do so after i am admitted, will Upenn reconsider my application?

Thank you

from ap student to ap student, if you drop any of your ap courses then it might actually decrease your chances in getting into a college, because that is what colleges are looking for.

Now how about from someone who actually knows something to an AP student? It might be a bit more helpful.

Talk to the people at Wharton/your adcom.

wait until u get in... cuz if u dont it wont matter... and if u do then ask, but dont ask b4 cuz it might give u a lesser chance of getting in

If you get accepted, you might as well drop because chances are Penn won't take back their descion. Of course, if you're deffered, dropping shows a lack of motivation and will contribute to a denial. And if you're denied... eh, who cares?

Im in a similar situation....

My school only offers AP Calc AB... but the other AP Calc class is preparing also for the BC. Penn only gives credit for BC so I wanted to change to that class. In order to change it I need to drop AP English lit, or otherwise my schedule wouldn't fit. Penn doesn't even give credit to AP English lit... so would it look bad?

Well bernardolw, it seems like your planning your schedule change around Penn. Get in first before you think too deeply about this.

bernardolw: If you get into Penn ED, talk to your GC first, but I think it's a good idea. If you're deferred however, I would advise against it because even though BC is just AB with a few added topics, it'd best to switch into BC as early as possible if you want the best preparation.

burea: I don't think Penn would rescind your app just because you switched classes. Plus, this is your senior year after all. If you get in, reward yourself but I still wouldn't take some stupid class like Keyboarding in its place.

bernaldow... u can still take the bc, just self study the extra like, 3 topics

thanks for the advice... and yes I have to get into Penn first... but the change wouldnt be till next yr anyway!

you suck bernard. wait a week before continuing these frivolous posts you have a whole year to talk to epople about that decision.

I know someone who applied to Penn last year and dropped AP Computer Science without notifying them....they found out and were very angry. He had to pick the course back up; they threatened to rescind his decision. If you are accepted ED you can not change your high school schedule.

I have something called a zero period at my school. Basically this means that I have an extra class that I have to go to. My school startes at 8:45 but I have to go at 7:15 because of the extra class. Do you think Penn will note this?

Your mother loves you regardless of your sexual orientation.

(If you're taking more classes than the average student nationwide, then theyll probably just look at it favourably - that's assuming I understood your question correctly, which I am not sure I did)

I doubt it will make a difference. I take a zero period too, but I didn't write it on my application or anything..it's not a big accomplishment. I guess they might suspect it if they realized I take more classes than the normal day allows. But yeah..if you appear to be a dedicated student, it might help confirm that, but otherwise, I don't think it's significant.

I have to make the decision next week... and the change is till next semester... you dont have to be rude.
