what if i get 1's on my ap tests??? will i not get into an ivy?

annasdad, even though the CDS does not ask about AP scores, the self-reporting of AP scores has been discussed on CC. It’s true that the most selective schools will look at self-reported scores (or lack thereof) in the context of the entire application. A student who has a string of 5’s and then one 1 is going to be perceived differently than a student who has only weak scores. On the other hand, if the student with weak scores comes from a weak high school with limited AP offerings, or if the student self-studied, that might mean something entirely different.

^ Even for the valedictorian at a weak hs, poor scores can seem to indicate an unpreparedness for a highly competitive college. After all, APs -in theory- follow a standardized course plan and are supposed to be college level. But, taking them and getting a good grade can show motivation.

When I visited Harvard, I was told if you scored well on your AP tests they can have a positive affect on your chances…

Of course, they are probably a minuscule part of the admissions process even if the scores are considered. But I still believe scoring low or not reporting the scores can have a negative impact.
