Hi, I am a upcoming junior who is preparing for the colleges next year.
Several days ago, I have gotten some letters from the colleges. They say they "are interested in" me. I think they noticed my PSAT score.
I've got some from Rice, Washington (St.Louis), Rochester, and UChicago, which are my dream schools.
If i got a letter from them, are there going to have more chances to be accepted next fall? Do the letters mean that I am in a good shape for those colleges? I am actually trying out for Wahsington University (Econ major) as a ED on this fall.

i think everyone gets those letters basically

I’m a sophomore and colleges are sending me letters… they want your money, sorry. :)

It does however mean you aren’t completely out of range. Of course Rochester sent me a letter and I only made a 500 in math on the sitting that bought scores from.

It basically means your scores are in the ballpark of the colleges. Doesn’t mean they’ll accept you at all.

Better get a big recycling can! It’s only the beginning of a huge pile of paper.

It’s good that you’re thinking ahead though :)

I started getting them last year as a freshman after I took the SAT.

The testing companies can and will sell your information.

They found out your “interested majors and scores” from either collegeboard or princeton review. You will fit in with those colleges that sent you mail.

It doesn’t mean anything. Everyone gets them.

If you take the PSAT and don’t check the box saying you don’t want colleges to contact you, they will. A lot. Don’t let it go to your head. Everyone who took the PSAT is getting those mass mailings. It doesn’t mean they think you’re a likely admit or that your states preferences coincide with their strengths. They’re just trying to promote themselves to try to boost their applications so they can be more selective.

Don’t waste your Early Decision option on a pretender like WUSTL.

What do you mean by “pretender”?

Everyone knows that no school can flood a mail box like Wash U, which is knon for sending tons of mail. I remember D receiving mail from them even after she left for college.

+1 on WUSTL. I’m only a sophomore, and I’ve already received over 20 items in the mail from them.

In late October/early November I would get 2-3 pieces of mail from WUStL every day.

WUSTL inflates its rankings, its worth, and its status among other schools. Hence the label, “pretender.”

OMG, WUSTL is super annoying when it comes to mailing… To make matters worse, they thought my real name and my english name were two different people, so they would always send me two copies of everything… Also, the admissions officer who came to my school was VERY rude. =[

i still have a box full of letters from last year, and now im a junior i think im gonna have a bigger box. Its all really BS. They’re just trying to get you to apply

yeah, just today, I got mail from like 8 more colleges.lol.

Colleges send so much stuff, it’s ridiculous. And all it means is that you are in the ballpark to get in based on test scores- NOT that you have a good chance. They just want you to apply.
Also, many of the schools simply don’t match your needs. For example, I’ve consistently listed my intended major as a Humanities major on standardized tests, but I’ve received letters from engineering schools. They just want you to apply, whether they’re a good fit or not. Take college mail with a big grain of salt.

Yeah, and so far, only private colleges have sent me mail.
