What if I have no clue what I want to major in, but want to apply to honors?

I'm indecisive, and I have a wide range of interests. Not surprisingly, I have absolutely no idea what I would like to major in. I understand that you're able to change majors - but what if I want to apply to an honors college? Would I be able to change majors and still stay within a specific honors program, or transfer to another one?
I kind of like the idea of LAH - but I don't know if I necessarily want to major in anything liberal arts. I can't say why I'm taken with LAH. I can't even say if I'd be able to get in.

I really can't see myself going to UT without trying for an honors college because it's such a large university. From what I understand, being in an honors college not only offers a challenge but also gives you the chance to experience smaller class sizes.

Quite the conundrum. UT is my safety, because I'd be paying in-state tuition and because I'm well within the top 8% of my class. However, there's no point in choosing a safety school you hate. And there's a probable chance I would hate attending UT without the honors classes. I'll probably visit to be certain of this - because I recognize that the university is one of the best public schools in the nation and I'd feel like an ingrate, and an ignorant one at that, for passing up automatic admission without reasonable cause.

So, getting back on topic. What do you recommend for an indecisive student with no certain major, but would like to apply to an honors college?

From what I understand, you can still get into Business Honors your sophomore year, I don’t know about other honors programs.

Thank you for that information. I’ve entertained the thought of going into business, so it’s nice to know at least one of my many possible options will still be available after freshman year.

Plan II Honors [Plan II Honors Program, UT Austin](<a href=“Plan II Honors Program | Liberal Arts | UT - Austin”>Plan II Honors Program | Liberal Arts | UT - Austin)[0]=plan2

I really, really recommend Plan II. They’re full of indecisives like you :)

How about Liberal Arts Honors and then a Humanities major? This works out well for people with a variety of interests.
[Humanities Program, The University of Texas at Austin](<a href=“The Humanities Program | Liberal Arts | UT - Austin”>The Humanities Program | Liberal Arts | UT - Austin)

Plan II’s motto has always been

I think you’ll fit right in ;)

DD is ending her freshman year and still trying to pick a major. She’s in COLA, but regrets not applying to honors. Spent time yesterday at UT’s career center, getting counseled on what career opportunities are possible with certain majors.

For you, it does sound like Plan II would be a good fit because many if not most people double major in Plan II and something else. You could start out there and add a major after a semester or two. And I second the person who suggested LAH and Humanities. We’re hearing great things about the Humanities major.

Thank you all for your input. I honestly don’t think I would be accepted into Plan II. In fact, it’s debatable whether I’d be accepted into LAH. But those are two options I will pursue now. The Humanities major is a great idea. I actually laughed when I read about it because it seems like giving me the ability to mold my own major just seems like giving me more decisions to make  But it definitely sounds like a viable option!
