I cant believe I'm posting AGAIN, but every day I just find more and more questions, UGHHH.
Anyways, so today I decided that I really want to apply to more than just one UC. Now I'm thinking of applying to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Cruz ,UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, and UC Irvine. So currently I'm taking the IGETC courses at De Anza College, and the major pre reqs that I found on Assist.org in order to transfer to UC. My major is Computer Science (Network Programming). So, on assist.org, when I looked up the courses i need to take for my major in order to transfer to UC Berkeley, it gave me a list of math classes I need to take, and a couple of computer classes....for the computer classes, it said that there are no courses articulated at De Anza, so does that mean I have to take those classes at UC Berkeley itself? after I get admitted, during my first semester? or do I HAVE to take those at a different community college? and if I DO have to take them at a different community college, then how do I find out if those courses are THE SAME at the other community college?! i'm so confused >_<
And also, on assist.org, the lists of the major pre-reqs I have to do are different for different colleges....for example, I have to complete the whole Physics series in de anza before transfering to UCLA....but if i want to transfer to UC Berkeley, I don't have to do any kind if science pre-reqs at all!!!

I don't know what's going on........so If I want to apply to different schools, does that mean that I'll have to complete ALL the pre-reqs for ALL the schools (in addition to the IGETC at de anza)?!?! and also, some schools DO NOT accept the IGETC!!! what do I do in that case then?! for example, Berkeley accepts IGETC, but UCLA DOESNT!!!! WHAT DO I DO WHAT DO I DO?!

I"M SO CONFUSED. I"M REALLY STRESSED. I DON'T WANT TO SPEND MORE THAN TWO YEARS IN COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRYING TO TAKE 50 BILLION PRE-REQS, IGETC'S, AND GE's.
PLEASE HELP ME!!!! D:

Are you looking at Berkeley’s L&S Comp Sci or EECS? If you’re going for EECS, I’m pretty sure they want physics, and assist suggests that you don’t follow IGETC.

Also, CS61A is really hard to find (there’s like, 2 CC’s that offer it). 61B is a bit easier to get, but you can certainly be accepted without it. Having CS courses will look good though, so you should take the ones your school offers. It shows an interest and that you’re capable of doing well in CS classes, even if they don’t transfer. You’ll probably need them for other schools you apply to anyways. If you do get into Cal, summer can be a good way to get 61A and 61B done before fall. That’s what I’m doing, and I know there are others doubling up on them as well.

Don’t worry if you don’t have every single pre-req finished, so long as you do your best to get a lot of them done you’ve got a pretty good shot.

I don’t know much about UCLA (didn’t apply there), so, uh, no tips for that one, sorry. ^^;

EDIT: One last thing, look for pre-reqs that overlap. Berkeley’s EECS pre-reqs fit perfectly with UCSD, UCSC, and UCI, so it was pretty easy to fill requirements at all four of those schools without taking extra classes for each one. If there are a ton of random pre-reqs, start with the ones multiple schools want.

I was looking at the Computer Science L&S! OH CRAPPP…I gotta get to searching for the 61A then…but as you said, it’s ok if I don’t finish ALL of the major pre-reqs, right?.. and oh, alright!!! Yeah, I checked and there are plenty that overlap, so I guess I’ll just take the ones that are the same for every college, and if I have time, i’ll finish the rest! Oh and also, another quick question: the A.A/A.S degree is NOT required to transfer to a UC, right? it’s just for your own enrichment or something? cause if i wanna get a A.A/A.S degree for Computer Science- Network Programming, I have to take a huge list of computer classes + G.E. for De Anza…if I just wanna transfer to a UC, I just have to follow whatever assist,org gives me, and the IGETC requirements, right?

Thank you so much for taking the time and helping me out!!! I really appreciate it!! Good luck to you btw! :)

Cal doesn’t expect transfers to have 61A done when they transfer in, a majority of students cannot take it at a CC. (Basically, missing that and Discrete won’t hurt your chances of getting in.) If you can get it, it’s good to have, but don’t panic if you can’t find it.

You don’t need an AA/AS to transfer. And IGETC/pre-reqs depends on the UC and major, just follow assist for stuff specific to your major, and double check the UC’s general requirements to make sure you’re not missing anything. :>

If you have an AA and list it on your resume, employers might raise an eyebrow. They could think that you’ve barely done anything at Berkeley and that you’re more the caliber of a community college kid(most of which drop out or can’t handle uni work)
