What if I want to answer an additional essay question? (Andover)

I have already written what I believe is a good essay, however, I have a couple of good ideas for their other prompts. Should I write another essay and mail it to them as supplemental material? Thanks!

@heps1996,
I’d call the admissions office and see if they think it’s okay. If not, you already have a prompt so use that one.

Follow directions and don’t deviate. The admissions staff has enough to read without being bogged down with additional essays.

creative1, that’s why it’s supposed to be SUPPLEMENTAL material. I thought that sending an extra essay might give AOs additional insight.

Supplemental material would be an art portfolio or a musical recording, etc. I wouldn’t write additional essays. If you are a strong writer and have essays, poems, newspaper articles you want to send in, then that is a possibility but my advice is keep it simple unless it is something special.

There’s an old saying: “The thicker the file, the thicker the applicant.”

Admissions reads through 2,000 apps. They are experts at this and they know what they want and that is what they ask for. Following directions is important. They’re not going to say, “oh, look! Heps1996 wrote an additional essay! Let’s give him brownie points and accept him!” It just doesn’t work that way. :)
