I applied to UIUC as a business major but I think I want to switch now! I'm really wanting to do Electrical Engineering first before going into business.

So my question is, is it easy to switch out of the College of Business and go into the College of Engineering or almost impossible?

Switching into Engineering is relatively easy (compared to other universities). You need to apply after one or two years of classes, including required ones like calculus, chemistry, and physics, and a minimum GPA ranging from 2.7 to 3.2 (depending on the major) guarantees admission. You may still request review with a GPA slightly lower than required. Both the overall and technical (calculus, chemistry, and physics) GPA must meet the requirements. EE requires a 2.9 to guarantee approval as a junior or to apply as a sophomore. UIUC does not allow double majors between Business and Engineering.

^^; I also just realized (it sucks that I cant just edit my post) that it is the weekend before Nov 1st. So even if I wanted to get switched over, it's almost virtually impossible since it's a weekend and also Halloween.

I'll guess I'll have to see.. I wish I could just talk to someone directly.

If anyone wants to do the same here's the message they sent me:

Hey Meng, about switching majors...do you know how hard it is to switch into UIUC's business school (I was admitted to LAS' General Currculum)? And if they reject me from their business program, am I entirely rejected from the school even though I was admitted under undecided earlier?

It depends, you were already admited right? I would not suggest switching now as it may be dangerous. In my case, they hadn't even reviewed my application yet. Besides, through LAS you'll be able to move to business pretty easily. I think it's too late now anyway ^_^; Sorry for the late reply

Once you're a UIUC student in a major other than Business, you apply to the Business program for junior year, so you don't "switch in." You have to take certain classes before applying and admission is based mostly on GPA (the cutoff is around a 3.2 but has been increasing every year). As far as freshman admissions, if you are rejected from a selective program like Business or Engineering, you don't have the option of selecting another major (that is, you are entirely rejected from the school). That's why many people apply to LAS hoping to switch in later.
