What if it's not Wharton?

I’m a bit confused about U-Penn. Obviously it is a fantastic school, however, if you are applying for Undergraduate education, and you are not interested in the preprofessional nursing or business or medicine, is the College of Arts and Sciences as amazing as these other schools in U-Penn, or are they a bit overshadowed by the preprofessional programs?

we don't have a medicine program. the undergraduate school you left out is engineering.

and yes, sas is a veritable treasure trove of learning.

yes SAS is definitely amazing, it has some of the top departments in the country (i.e. Economics, Anthropology, Archaeology, Psychology...to name a few...) it is often a mistake or misperception to think that the arts and sciences are overshadowed by the professional schools at penn...about 2/3 of the undergraduate student body is enrolled in the arts and sciences and students from all 4 undergraduate schools complete a significant portion of their coursework there

SAS is amazing.

i was looking at the admissions rates on the penn website and the acceptance percentage for SAS was like, 11%, which was probably the lowest one. i'm not sure though. does that mean it's harder to get into than the professional schools?? kind of confused... i always had the perception that it was easier to get into.

my guess as to why it is has the lowest acceptance rate is the fact that there is a much larger application pool. the specialized schools are self-selective and generally have a smaller number of applicants.

Really, the College of Arts and Science has 11% admission rate? I thought Wharton has the lowest admission rate. I couldn't find the CAS admission rate on the website.

oh, well this probably isn't accurate, but on the penn CAS site they said "Each College class is composed of approximately 1,550 freshmen selected from nearly 13,000 applicants" and that's around 11% i think...unless i did my math wrong.

yea the 11% acceptance rate i guess is for the entire university...the numbers on penn's website encompass all the schools...each school doesnt post its own stats on their websites...not that i know of at least...if they do then its not easily found

i thought penn's acceptance rate was like 18%. or is the 11% for all the colleges combined, and the one they show regularly (18%) for CAS only?

you have 1550 in the class, but they accept a lot more than 1550. The acceptance rate for Wharton is the lowest, SAS is almost twice that of Wharton because it's less selective. At Penn, you will feel that Wharton is prioritized over other schools, and this is reality. But then again, Wharton is Penn's crown jewel.

Wharton would be any university's crown jewel...even Harvard. The rest of Penn is excellent as well.

if Wharton was in Harvard, wow i couldn't even imagine what would happen. The number of applciants to Harvard might increase tenfold.

Harvard would be #1 for the rest of eternity...well, not like that changes anyways, but I'm pretty sure Yale and Princeton would just accept defeat.
