What if my high school(international) calculates my GPA in a wrong way?

Let me start by saying this: I have no idea how GPA is actually calculated.

My high school started giving GPA from last year. We sit for board exams at the end of 10th, 11th and 12th grades. So, they calculate the GPA from those scores.

Some students from my school got into a bunch of top schools last year with a GPA calculated in this way. If my GPA is calculated incorrectly by my school ( I get a higher GPA from school's method), am I at a disadvantage?

I tried to talk to the administration about this, but they are adamant that their calculation is right. It is out of my hands. I still send my transcripts, but would the GPA written on my common app my the counselor harm my application greatly?

American high schools don’t all compute grade point averages the same way. There is no “right way.” So there can’t really be a “wrong way,” either.

Your school may compute GPA in an “unusual way,” but universities that deal with international applicants will have procedures in place for evaluating those applicants’ secondary-school records. I don’t think you need to worry about this.
